WEBSTER GROVES – Without sports for the 2020 first semester, Webster University Athletics looks back at some events that took place during the week for This Week in Gorlok Athletics History - Oct. 26-Nov. 1.
 
Oct. 26, 2019 – Melissa Kasper recorded assists on all three of the Webster women's soccer goals in its 3-0 home St. Louis Intercollegiate Conference win over MacMurray College at World Wide Technology Soccer Park. Kasper's three assists helped the forward establish a new school career mark for assists with 50, which bettered the old school career mark of 47 set by Christy Capkovic from 2007-10. The win over MacMurray improved the Gorloks to 11-4-1 overall and 5-1-1 in the SLIAC. All three of Kasper's assists came in the second half of the match as neither team scored in the opening 45 minutes of the match. Her first assist came on a goal by Olivia Osterhage in the 56th minute, while her second assist came on a goal by Jordan Lande in the 63rd minute and the final assist came on a goal by Sophie Lambiasse in the 73rd minute. Oct. 27, 2018 – Webster's women's cross country team put five runners in the Top 12 en route to taking home its second consecutive SLIAC Women's Cross Country championship at the Litchfield Country Club. At the SLIAC Championships, the Gorloks top four runners finished third, fourth, sixth and ninth to score a total of 29 points and win its second league title by 30 points over Greenville University, who scored 59 points. With the repeat title, Webster became the first women's cross country team to repeat as a league champion since Greenville won six straight titles from 2004-09. Meredith Sowers was the top Gorlok finisher as she placed third after running a season-best 6K time of 23:39.85. In addition to Sowers, Minnell Fundora placed fourth with a career-best 6K time of 23:40.62 and Kalleigh Linthicum was seventh with a 6K time of 23:53.30. All three of those runners earned First-Team All-SLIAC honors. Lauren Coleman and Taylor Dunning each earned Second-Team All-SLIAC honors after finishing ninth and 12th respectively. Recap
 
Oct. 28, 2017 – Thanks to four Gorloks finishing in the Top 7, the women's cross country team earned its second-ever SLIAC title and first since 2011 as they won the 2017 SLIAC Cross Country Championship after scoring a total of 31 points to win by six points over Greenville. At the championship meet. Holly Goegen was the top Gorlok finisher as she placed third overall with a career-best 6K time of 23:17 and that time was then the third fastest 6K time in school history. Goergen's third place finish earned her a First-Team All-SLIAC honor for the third time in her career and she also became just the second Gorlok to earn All-Confernece honors four times. Along with Goergen, the other Top 7 finishers were Meghan Illig, who finished fourth with a time of 23:32 and Lauren Coleman set a freshman record for a 6K with a time of 23:39 to place fifth and earn SLIAC Newcomer of the Year honors. The fourth Gorlok to finish in the Top 7 was Meredith Sowers, who was seventh with a time of 23:43. A fifth Gorlok runner earned Second-Team All-SLIAC honors as Kalleigh Linthicum placed 12th overall with a then personal-best 6K time of 24:36. Recap
 
Oct. 29, 2011 – The women's cross country team made history on Oct. 29, 2011 as they took home its first-ever SLIAC title in cross country as they scored 40 points to win the title by five points over runner-up Principia College. Prior to winning the title in 2011, Webster's best previous finish at the league's championship meet was second place in both 2010 and 2000. At the 2011 SLIAC Championships, Julie Greenough was the top finisher for the Gorloks as she placed fourth after running a 6K time of 24:27 to earn First-Team All-SLIAC honors. Along with Greenough, two other Gorloks earned First-Team All-SLIAC accolades as Heather Heisse (24:35) finished sixth and Jane McKibben (24:36) was seventh overall. Oct. 30, 2012 – The Webster volleyball team clinched a share of the regular season SLIAC title following its three-set sweep (25-17, 25-13, 25-21) at Principia College on Oct. 30, 2012. In the win over the Panthers, Webster clinched a share of the regular season title with Greenville and have won the regular season league title for the second consecutive season and fifth time in the last six years. The three-set win was also Webster 13th consecutive league win in straight sets. Against Principia, Sam Kersting recorded 12 kills and hit .455, while Jenny Howard added 10 kills and hit .455 in the win and Allie O'Toole recorded a double-double of 19 assists and 14 digs. Despite tying the regular season league title with the win, the Gorloks earned the No. 2 seed in the SLIAC Tournament. Recap | Box Score
 
Oct. 31, 2015 – Webster's Valerie Martin made history on Oct. 31, 2015, at the SLIAC Women's Cross Country Championships as she became the second-ever Gorlok and first since Rita Ross in 1993 to win an individual SLIAC title in cross country. At the SLIAC Championship meet, Martin, who was named the SLIAC Runner of the Year, ran a 6K time of 23:07 to win the individual title. Martin's time was the second fastest 6K time in the program's history. Despite Martin winning the individual title and having two other runners place in the Top 6, the Gorloks finished fourth overall out of seven teams and was just seven points behind the champion, Spalding University. Along with Martin, Holly Goergen and Meghan Illig placed fourth and sixth respectively at the championships with 6K times of 23:34 and 23:40. Recap
 
Nov. 1, 2012 – A goal from Carlos Espinosa at the 21 minute mark of the first half helped the Gorlok men's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Fontbonne University in the semifinals of the SLIAC Tournament at World Wide Technology Soccer Park. Espinosa's goal, which was his seventh of the season, proved to be the only scoring in the tournament semifinal match and helped Brian Woodward pick up his seventh shutout of the season as he faced just 12 shots and made six saves in goal for the Gorloks. With the win over Fontbonne, Webster improved to 11-5-2 on the season and advanced to the finals where they picked up a 2-0 win over Westminster (Mo.) College and earned the SLIAC Tournament title for fourth time in school history and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the fifth time overall and first time since 2009. Recap | Box Score
