Beussink Named SLIAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week

BELLEVILLE, Ill. – For the second consecutive week and third time this season, Webster University had a women's basketball player honored by the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference as its Women's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday afternoon by the league office.

This week's final SLIAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the 2019-20 season is Gorlok sophomore forward Addison Beussink (Jackson, Mo./Saxony Lutheran). Beussink is the second consecutive Gorlok to be honored by the league as senior guard Jaysea Morgan (Fisk, Mo./Twin Rivers) was honored for the second time this season last Monday.

Beussink earns this week's honor after averaging 20.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and 4.5 blocks per game to help the Gorloks wrap up the outright SLIAC regular season title with a home win over Eureka (91-87) and a road win on Saturday over Iowa Wesleyan (85-72). With the two wins, Webster concludes the regular season with an 18-7 overall record and a 16-2 league mark.

The Player of the Week honor is the second of Beussink's career and just the fourth time since the beginning of the season that a Webster player was honored by the league as Morgan was honored twice this season and Beussink was honored last season on Dec. 3, 2018.

Beussink began the week by scoring 18 points and adding 11 rebounds, three assists and a career high nine blocked shots in 35 minutes of action in the home win over Eureka and then tallied 23 points and added eight rebounds, a steal and shot 71 percent from the field in the win over Iowa Wesleyan. Beussink's double-double against Eureka was her sixth double-double of the season, while her nine blocks in that same game were fourth most in a game in school history and the most blocks in a game by a Gorlok player since Cassie Endicott blocked 10 shots at Blackburn on Jan. 29, 2014.

On the season, Beussink leads the team in both scoring (13.8) and rebounding (7.4) and has also blocked 33 shots and is shooting 51 percent from the field and 78 percent from the free throw line. She has scored in double figures in 16 games, including two straight double figure scoring games heading into this week's SLIAC Tournament.

Beussink and the rest of her Gorlok teammates will return to this action this coming Friday as they face No. 4 seeded Greenville in the second semifinal of the 2020 SLIAC Tournament, which is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. and will be held at Webster's Grant Gymnasium. The Gorloks are the No. 1 seed in the tournament.
