Hocker, Pickett and Vetter Named Early Wave Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars

NORMAN, Okla. – Webster University men's golf had three of its student-athletes named to the NCAA Division III 2019-20 Early Wave Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar Team by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) on Wednesday afternoon.

With its three selections, Webster has now had at least two or more student-athletes named to the Early Wave Srixon/Cleveland Golf Division III All-America Scholar Team for the fifth time in the last six years as this year junior Will Hocker (Grapevine, Texas/University of Oklahoma), senior Cole Pickett (Greenville, Ill./Keiser University) and junior Mitchell Vetter (Colleyville, Texas/Grapevine) were recognized by the GCAA.

A total of 108 players in NCAA Division III earned Early Wave Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar honors for the COVID-19 shortened 2019-20 season. Along with the 108 Division III men's golfers selected, the GCAA honored a record 614 student-athletes this year, which is the most since the awards inception in 1982. Webster's threesome of selections were the only ones honored from the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Hocker, who became the first-ever Division III All-American in men's golf this year, posted a single season school record 72.0 scoring average during the abbreviated 2019-20 season. Along with earning Division III PING All-America honors, Hocker was also a PING All-Region selection for the third straight year and in 18 rounds and seven events in 2019-20, Hocker finished in the Top 10 in six of Webster's seven events, including four Top 5 placements and winning medalist honors at the season opening Culver's Edgewood College Fall Classic. Finished the season with a 602-31 combined record and shot a school record round of 63 (8-under par) in the final round of the Tim Kopka Memorial Tournament and that round of 63 was the lowest round this season among all Division III golfers, while his 8-under par was tied for the lowest round relative to par in Division III.

Pickett, who is a two-time All-SLIAC selection, including earning First-Team honors in 2019, posted a 76.22 scoring average in 18 rounds and seven events during the 2019-20 season and on the year, he had two Top 10 finishes, including earning medalist honors at the Country Club Classic during the fall season as he shot a 2-under par 140 for 36 holes. Recorded two rounds of par or better on the year and his 76.22 scoring average is 12th on the school's single season chart.

Vetter, who was a First-Team All-SLIAC selection in 2018-19, posted a 76.33 scoring average in 18 rounds and seven events during the 2019-20 season. On the season, he had one Top 10 finish, which was a third place showing in the season opening Culvers Edgewood College Fall Classic. At that event, Vetter shot a 3-over par 145 for 36 holes. He had two rounds of par or better on the year, including season low round of 71 in the second round of the Rhodes College Fall Collegiate Classic.
