WELDON SPRINGS, Mo. - Webster University continued its 2021 season here Monday by firing rounds of 297 and 292 to sit in fifth place out of 12 teams with a 21-over team score of 589 following the first two rounds of the Lindenwood Invitational held here at the Missouri Bluffs Golf Club.
The Gorloks opened the two-day, 54-hole event by carding a 297 to sit in third place after the first round and then shot a 292 in the second round and fell into fifth place heading into Tuesday's final round of the event hosted by Lindenwood University.Â
The tournament features nine NCAA Division II schools and Webster is one of two NCAA Division III schools playing as the Gorloks are joined by Millikin University, who sits in sixth place with a score of 604 (298, 306)Â through 36 holes.Â
Central Missouri sits atop the team leaderboard as the Mules shot rounds of 282 and 274 to finish with a 12-under par team score of 556. Findlay sits second after shooting a 10-over par 578 (294, 284) for 36 holes, while Maryville University and Missouri S&T are tied for third after shooting 17-over par 585's for 36 holes. Maryville carded rounds of 300 and 285 and Missouri S&T had rounds of 297 and 288.Â
Webster sent two teams and two individuals to the event as the Gorloks' "B" team recorded rounds of 327 and 317 to sit in 12th place.
Leading the way for the Gorloks was senior All-American
Will Hocker (Grapevine, Texas/University of Oklahoma), who carded rounds of 71 and 70 to finish with a 1-under par 141 to sit in a tie for seventh place. Hocker, who is within four shots of the lead, was one of eight golfers in the event that shot under par on Monday.Â
Thomas Henson of Central Missouri sits atop the individual leaderboard as he carded rounds of 70 and 67 to post a 5-under par 137 to lead by two shots over two players - Central Missouri's Nick Westrich and Findlay's Donnie Professori, who each shot 3-under par 139's for 36 holes to sit in second place.Â
Fifth-year senior
Zac Ciesla (Lake Charles, La./Alfred M. Barbe) shot rounds of 76 and 72 to post a score of 148 through 36 holes to sit in a tie for 20th place.Â
Webster's third counter on Monday was senior
Cole Pickett (Greenville, Ill./Keiser University), who shot rounds of 76 and 73 to post a 149 for 36 holes to sit tied for 21st place.Â
Sophomore
Cody Surma (Lexington, Ill./University High) was the fourth counter for the Gorloks as he fired rounds of 74 and 78 to post a 36 hole score of 152 to sit in a tie for 30th place.Â
Webster's fifth golfer was freshman
Justin McCoy (Savoy, Ill./Champaign Central) as he shot back-to-back rounds of 77 to post a 154 to sit in a tie for 36th place.Â
The 'B' Team's top golfers on Monday was senior
Mitchell Vetter (Colleyville, Texas/Grapevine)Â as he shot a 75 and 76 in the first two rounds to sit tied for 28th place with a 151. The second counter for the 'B' Team was senior
Christian Deters (Teutopolis, Ill./Teutopolis) as he shot rounds of 83 and 78 to sit tied for 52nd place with a 161.Â
Other scores from the 'B' Team were freshman
Nathan Rivera (Breese, Ill./Mater Dei) shooting an 84 and 82 to sit tied for 64th place with a 166, while sophomore
Tony Cebuhar (Dunlap, Ill./Southwestern CC) shot a 167 (85, 82) for 36 holes to sit in 65th place and junior
Mike Guthrie (High Ridge, Mo./Northwest) fired rounds of 89 and 81 to sit in 67th place with a 170 through 36 holes.Â
Webster's two individuals competing at the event are freshman
Cole Lehmen (Westphalia, Mo./Fatima) and freshman
Justin Hoffman (St. Clair, Mo./St. Clair). Lehman shot rounds of 84 and 78 to sit tied for 56th place with a 162 and Hoffman carded rounds of 91 and 82 to post a 173 and sit in 68th place through two rounds.Â
The Gorloks will conclude play in the tournament on Tuesday as the teams will play a final 18 holes. The third round will have a shotgun start beginning at 10 a.m.Â
