ST. LOUIS, Mo. – D3hoops.com has released their women's basketball Top 25 Poll for week nine. The Gorloks, who are 18-0 on the season, are receiving votes for this first time this season. They received five votes in the poll which ranks them 37
th overall.
The Gorloks have been dominating opponents all season long as they have won their 18 games by an average of 26.3 points per game which ranks fifth in all of NCAA Division III. They currently rank in the top five nationally in assists per game (19.2), field-goal percentage (46.5%), scoring offense (88.2 points/game), three-point field-goal defense (18.2%), turnover margin (10.78), and turnovers forced per game (28.94). They also rank in the top 10 nationally in total steals (327) and three-point field-goal percentage (34.6%) while being one of just four remaining unbeaten teams in the country.
Addison Beussink leads the way for the Gorloks as she is averaging a team high 17.9 points and 7.9 rebounds per game. She is shooting just over 57 percent from the floor while shoot nearly 78 percent from the free throw line.
Naomi Johnson averages a second best 13.3 points per game while shooting a team high 41 percent from the three-point line. She is also shooting 80 percent from the free throw line while dishing out 46 assists.
Hannah Cottrell is averaging a team high 3.78 assists per game while pulling down 4.0 rebounds per game.
Despite their impressive offensive numbers, it has been the defense that has been the key for the Gorloks all season.
Naomi Johnson,
Hannah Cottrell, and
Lauryn Freeman have all stolen the ball over 45 times this year. Johnson leads the way as she has accumulated 56 steals on the season and is averaging 3.1 per game. Cottrell is not too far behind Johnson as she has picked up 55 steals on the season and is averaging 3.05 per contest. Freeman has picked up 47 steals on the year for an average of 2.6 per game.
The women's basketball team is back in action on Wednesday, February 9
th when they host the Eureka (Ill.) College Red Devils for a SLIAC matchup. The game is set to start at 5:30 p.m. in Grant Gymnasium.
