11 Gorloks Honored by SLIAC

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – This afternoon the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced the women's soccer All-SLIAC teams and superlative awards for the 2023 season. For their efforts this past season, Grace Rodgers and Mya Stegen were named First Team All-SLIAC; Malaya Blakely, Abbey Poe, Angie Calabrese, and Isabella Dickneite were named Second Team All-SLIAC; and Payton Montana, Mackenzie Sundhausen, and Courtney Haneline were named Third Team All-SLIAC. In addition, Grace Rodgers was named the SLIAC Offensive Player of the Year, Malaya Blakely was named the SLIAC Newcomer of the Year, Luigi Scire was named the SLIAC Coach of the Year, and Jasmine Hubbard was named to the SLIAC All-Sportsmanship Team.

Luigi Scire – SLIAC Women's Soccer Coach of the Year

Scire, and his coaching staff, helped guide his team to an 11-3-1 overall record and an 8-0 mark in SLIAC play. His team earned their 16th SLIAC Regular Season Title and the top seed in the SLIAC Women's Soccer Championships. His team had an unblemished record in conference play for the 11th time in program history and they outscored conference opponents 32-1 in eight games. This is the eighth time that Scire has been named Coach of the Year and the first time since the 2018 season.

Grace Rodgers – SLIAC Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Year/First Team All-SLIAC

Rodgers, a junior out of O'Fallon, Missouri, had another great season for the Gorloks. She finished the year with nine goals and a team high five assists for 23 total points. In conference play, she finished second in the SLIAC with seven goals while finishing tied for the conference lead with 17 points. She recorded three or more points three times this season including five points against Blackburn (Ill.) and five points against Lyon (Ark.). She becomes the eighth Gorlok in program history to win the award and the first since Melissa Kasper earned back-to-back awards in 2018 and 2019. This is her second straight season being named First Team All-SLIAC and her first time being named the SLIAC Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Year.

Mya Stegen – First Team All-SLIAC

Stegen, a junior out of St. Louis, Missouri, played a huge role for the Gorloks this season. She finished the regular season with one goal and four assists for six total points on the year. Of her six points, five came in conference play as she scored a goal and added an assist against Blackburn (Ill.) and then went on to record two assists in the teams next game against Westminster (Mo.). She played well defensively all season long and helped hold opponents to just 15 goals on the season including just one goal in conference play. This is her second straight First Team All-SLIAC selection.

Malaya Blakely – SLIAC Women's Soccer Newcomer of the Year/Second Team All-SLIAC

Blakely, a freshman out of Fort Wayne, Indiana, had a breakout freshman season for the Gorloks. She led the team with 10 goals while adding three assists for 23 total points on the year. Of her 23 points, 15 came in conference play which ranks third in the league. She recorded three or more points in four matches this season including a season high seven points against Lyon (Ark.) in the Gorloks final game of the regular season. She scored a hat trick in the game and was named the SLIAC Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the first time in her career. She is the 12th player in program history to win the award and the first player since Mackenzie Sundhausen won the award in 2021.

Abbey Poe – Second Team All-SLIAC

Poe, a senior out of St. Louis, Missouri, appeared and started in 14 games for the Gorloks this season. She scored three goals, including the game winner against Beloit (Wis.), and added three assists for nine total points on the year.  In conference play, Poe recorded seven points, including three points against Blackburn (Ill.) and three points against Principia (Ill.). This is the second time Poe has earned All-SLIAC honors and her first time being named to the second team.

Angie Calabrese – Second Team All-SLIAC

Calabrese, a senior out of San Marcos, California, started all 15 games for the Gorloks this season. She recorded one goal and three assists out of the right back position. All five of her points came in conference play as she recorded a career high four points against Principia (Ill.) and then went on to record an assist in the teams next game against Lyon (Ark.). She played a big role on the Gorloks back line that allowed just one goal in conference play and was named the SLIAC Defensive Player of the Week once this season. This is the second time Calabrese has been named All-SLIAC and her first time being named to the second team.

Isabella Dickneite – Second Team All-SLIAC

Dickneite, a junior out of St. Louis, Missouri, made 14 starts in 15 appearances for the Gorloks this season. She scored two goals and added two assists for six total points on the year. Only one of her points came in conference play as she recorded an assists in the teams 5-1 win over Principia (Ill.). She was vital in the teams defensive efforts on the season and routinely made big tackles to keep opponents off the board. This marks the second straight season Dickneite has been named All-SLIAC and her first time being named to the second team.

Payton Montana – Third Team All-SLIAC

Montana, a sophomore out of St. Louis, Missouri, made 14 starts in 15 appearances this season. She scored five goals, including game winners against Westminster (Mo.) and Spalding (Ky.), and added two assists for 12 total points on the year. Of her 12 points, all but one came in conference play as she scored all five of her goals against SLIAC opponents. Her five goals in conference play are tied for fifth in the SLIAC. This marks the first time that Montana has been named All-SLIAC in her career.

Mackenzie Sundhausen – Third Team All-SLIAC

Sundhausen, a junior out of St. Louis, Missouri, made 12 starts in 13 appearances for the Gorloks this season. She scored two goals and added two assists for six total points on the year. Of her two goals, one was a game winner as she scored the second goal in the teams 5-1 win over Principia. This marks her third straight All-SLIAC selection and her first time being named to the third team.

Courtney Haneline – Third Team All-SLIAC

Haneline, a freshman out of Loveland, Ohio, played every minute for the Gorloks in goal this season. She had an incredible freshman season as she allowed just 15 goals on the year while recording an 11-3-1 overall record and eight solo shutouts. She allowed just one goal in eight conference games and led the conference in goals against average (.125) and save percentage (.941). She also finished tied for the conference lead with seven shutouts in SLIAC play. This is her first career Third Team All-SLIAC selection.
