Women’s Soccer Earn Third Seed In SLIAC Tournament; Host Lyon College Nov. 1 For Quarterfinals Match at 4PM

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) has announced the pairings for the SLIAC Women's Soccer Tournament. The Webster University women's soccer team earned the third seed in the tournament with a 6-2 conference record. The Gorloks are set to host Lyon College this Saturday, November 1 for the quarterfinals match starting at 4:00PM at World Wide Technology Soccer Park in Fenton, Missouri.   

With this year's SLIAC tournament appearance, it marks the 20th consecutive year under Head Coach Luigi Scire

As of 10/31, five Gorloks enter tournament play ranked in the top-10 of offensive statistical categories. Senior midfielder Payton Montana ranks second in the conference with five game-winning goals, third with a 3.59 shots per game average, third with a 2.06 shots on goal average, third with 11 goals, and third with a 1.53 points per game average. 

Sophomore midfielder Mia Smith enters tournament play as the league leader with 10 assists, ranks fourth with a 1.76 shots on goal per game average, fifth with an average of three shots per game, and sixth with a 1.29 points per game average. 

Junior Forward Malaya Blakely currently ranks second in the conference with nine assists, tied for third with three game-winning goals, fourth with a 1.47 points per game average, tied for fifth with eight goals, sixth with a three shots per game average, sixth with a 1.53 shots on goal per game average, and tied for seventh with six goals scored. 

In addition, senior forward Elin Nilsson currently ranks tied for fifth in the conference with eight goals scored and seventh with a 1.24 points per game average. 

Lastly, senior forward Mayrin Soto currently ranks tied for fourth in the conference with six assists,  ninth with a 2.41 shots per game average, ninth with a 1.18 shots on goal per game average, and ninth with a 1.06 points per game average.  

The Gorloks defeated the Scots 2-1 in the regular season with goals by Mayrin Soto ('52) and Payton Montana ('80) as goalkeeper Kayla Jantzen recorded two saves.

Lyon College Scots Preview:

The Scots enter postseason play with an 3-8-3 overall record that includes 1-4-3 mark in conference play and the #6 seed in the tournament. Lyon clinched a spot in this quarterfinals match with a 1-0 victory over Mississippi University for Women on October 29th. In the past six matches, the Scots recorded a 1-2-3 record with draws against Eureka College (1-1), Blackburn College (1-1), and Principia College (0-0), and a 2-1 loss against Webster University.

As of 10/31, the Scots do not have any student-athletes (offensive and goalkeeping) ranked in the top-10 statistical leaders. 

Lyon makes their first SLIAC tournament appearance since joining the conference in 2022-23.
