Hughes Named Assistant Coach

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Webster University Head Women's Basketball Coach, Jordan Olufson, has announced Lexi Hughes as the Assistant Women's Basketball Coach. She will start immediately.

"We are so lucky to have Lexi join our program," Said Olufson. "We truly got better with Lexi joining our coaching staff. Lexi had a successful playing career at a very high level and will be able to help our players on and off the court with her high IQ and with her skill development. She will make a huge impact in our program and we can't wait to get started!"

Raised in Kansas City, Kansas, Hughes graduated from Bishop Miege High School where she played under Head Coach Terry English. She was a McDonald's All-American Nominee and First-Team All-Conference selection her senior year, an ESPN Top 100 recruit for the class of 2013, and was a four-time Eastern Kansas League All-Conference selection.

Following high school, Hughes pursued a Division I college basketball career at Missouri State University (2013-2017) where she played for Head Coach Kellie Harper and Assistant Coach Jackie Stiles. She had success on the court as a freshman as she led the Missouri Valley Conference in three-point shooting percentage knocking down 46.6 percent of her three-point shots on the season. During her junior season, she helped lead her team to the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament Championship and the teams first NCAA Tournament appearance in 10 seasons. In addition, Hughes helped lift her team to WNIT appearances in 2015 and 2017. Hughes finished her college basketball career ranked third in Missouri State University basketball history in games played (129), eighth in three-point makes (168) and attempts (463), 12th in three-point accuracy (.363), and 29th in scoring (894).

After graduating from Missouri State with a degree in Recreation, Sport, and Park Administration, Hughes began her coaching career as a Varsity Assistant Girls Basketball Coach at Herman High School in Herman, Missouri. She helped guide her team to a Regular Season Conference Title, their first District Tournament Championship since 2013, and a trip to the MSHSAA State Tournament for the first time since 2014.

Hughes will assist the program with on court coaching, recruiting, and player development. Having played as a point guard under such decorative coaching staffs and teams, Hughes plans to use her experience, level of IQ, and knowledge of the game, to help build and develop Webster's basketball players on and off the floor. She looks forward to assisting and continuing to create a championship culture and mindset for our student athletes.
