McCoy Secures Tie For 10th Overall; Gorloks Finish In Eighth Place At Wabash Fall Invite

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Webster University men's golf team concluded tournament play at the 2024 Wabash College Fall Invitational with the final 18 holes on Tuesday. The Gorloks battled the tough competitive field to an eighth place team finish that included a team score of 309 on the final day that led to a tournament score of 918. WU's Justin McCoy captured his second top-10 finish of the fall season with a final tournament score of 221 (74, 73, 74) that earned a five-way tie for 10th overall. 

McCoy started his final round on hole eight with a bogey but got back to even-par with a birdie on the par-5 ninth hole. After an unfortunate bogey on hole 10, he responded with a birdie on the par-five 12th hole to be at even-par. McCoy carded a bogey on hole 14 but followed up with a par for an even-par score of 36 on the first nine holes. 

The Savoy, Illinois native opened the final nine holes with three consecutive pars and later added another par on hole two. McCoy closed out the tournament with three straight pars that led to the top-10 finish. For the round, he constructed 10 pars, five bogeys, and three birdies. 

Nico Marin recorded the second lowest counting score for the Gorloks in the final round with a five-over par score of 77. In addition, Marin finished second on the team with a tournament score of 223 that captured a tie for 16th overall.

Marin started his final round on hole seven and carded a par. On the following next three holes, he played bogey-golf. Marin closed out the final four holes of the first nine holes with three pars and a birdie on hole 14. 

The international student-athlete from the country of Mexico, opened the final nine holes with four consecutive pars which was followed up with a bogey on hole two. However, he closed out the final round with four straight pars for a score of 77. For the round, he recorded 12 pars, four bogeys, a birdie, and a double-bogey.

Jacob LeBlanc was the next lowest counting score for the Gorloks as he recorded a seven-over par score of 79. He opened his final round on hole nine with a bogey and later got back to one-over with back-to-back birdies on holes 11 and 12. LeBlanc closed out the final four holes on the first nine holes at two-over that included a birdie in hole 16. 

The Canada native, started the final nine holes with a birdie on hole 18 and later carded a par on hole two. LeBlanc closed out the final four holes with three pars and a birdie on hole six. For the round, he tallied five pars, five bogeys, five birdies, and three triple bogey. With the addition of rounds one and two, he recorded a tournament score of 233. 

Senior Josh Hayes closed out his tournament with a seven-over par score of 79. Hayes started the round on hole nine and was three-over through the first four holes that included a par on the par-three 11th hole. He closed out the first nine holes with four consecutive pars that was followed up with a bogey on hole 17 for a score of 41. 

The St. Louis native started the final nine holes of the tournament with a bogey on hole 18 but answered with five straight pars. Hayes added back-to-back pars on holes seven and eight that  led to a seven-over 77. For the round, he constructed 12 pars, five bogeys, and a double-bogey. For the entire tournament, he recorded a tournament score of 241 that included rounds of 83, 79, and 79.

Trent Garrett closed out the scoring for the Gorloks with a 13-over par score of 85 on the final round. Garrett opened the day on hole 10 and was even-par through four holes with four straight pars. However, he closed out the first nine holes seven-over-par for a score of 44. 

The Chicago native opened the final nine holes with a par on hole one and later followed up with a par on hole three and back-to-back pars on holes five and six. He closed out the final round with a score of 41 that included a par on hole nine. For the round, he carded nine pars, five bogeys, and four double-bogeys. With the addition of his first two rounds of 84 and 90, Garrett constructed a tournament score of 259.  

First-year international student-athlete from the country of New Zealand, Cole Magkill closed out his individual tournament with a nine-over par score of 81. Magkill opened the day on hole 18 with a birdie and was followed up with back-to-back pars on holes one and two. However, he closed out the first nine holes with a score of 39 that included a birdie on hole seven. 

Makgill recorded four pars while adding two birdies on holes 12 and 17 to a back nine score of 44. For the round, he recorded eight pars, four birdies, three triple bogeys, two bogey, and a double-bogey. With the combination of his first two rounds of 72 and 89, he recorded a tournament score of 233 that tied LeBlanc.

First-year Connor Luvin also participated in this tournament as an individual and recorded a 13-over par score of 85 for his final round. He opened the day on hole 18 with a bogey and later added back-to-back pars on holes three and four. Luvin closed out the first nine holes with two pars and two bogeys for a score of 44. 

The St. Louis native carded two pars and seven bogeys on the back nine holes for the score of 44. For the round, he recorded 11 bogey, six pars, and a double-bogey. By adding his first two rounds of 79 and 78, he tallied a tournament score of 242.  

The Gorloks will continue the fall schedule with a road trip to Springfield, Ohio on Sunday, October 20 to participate in the two-day Wittenburg Classic hosted by Wittenburg University starting at 8:00 AM at Springfield Country Club.
