METAMORE, Ill. – The Webster University golf team was back in action over the last three days when they traveled to Metamora, Illinois, to compete in the SLIAC Men's Golf Championship. The Gorloks finished in second place out of 13 teams with a three-round score of 863 (295-289-279, +11).
Jan Antonin Wdowka led the way for the Gorloks as he won his second straight SLIAC Men's Golf Championship. He shot a three-round score of 208 (-4) after shooting a 70 (-1) in the first round, a 71 (E) in the second round, and a 67 (-4) in the final round. He led the field with a 2.80 scoring average on par 3's while finishing tied for first with 13 birdies. He becomes the sixth straight Gorlok to win the event and only the second Gorlok to win his second career title. He is the first member of the SLIAC to win back-to-back championships since Nick Profancik (Maryville) won three straight from 2007 to 2009. For his efforts, Wdowka earned First Team All-SLIAC honors and was named the SLIAC Men's Golfer of the Year for the second straight season.
Logan Forister was not too far behind Wdowka as he finished in a tie for eighth after shooting a three-round score of 216 (75-72-69, +3). He led the field with a 3.96 scoring average on par 4's while recording 36 pars and eight birdies. For his efforts, Forister earned First Team All-SLIAC honors for the first time in his career.
Austen Velazquez was the third Gorlok finisher as he finished in a tie for 16
th place after shooting a three-round score of 220 (76-74-70, +6). He finished the tournament with 33 pars and seven birdies. Following the conclusion of the tournament, he was named Second Team All-SLIAC.
Justin McCoy and
Nico Marin rounded out the competitors for Webster as they finished in 21
st place and tied for 22
nd, respectively. McCoy finished with a three-round score of 222 (74-75-73, +9) while Marin finished with a three-round score of 223 (76-72-75, +10). McCoy led all competitors with 39 total pars while Marin recorded 32.
Mississippi University for Women took home the conference title for the first time in program history after shooting a three-round team score of 858 (292-292-274, +6).
This marks the end of the season for the Webster men's golf team. The team will return to the course next fall.
