WU’s Govero Crowned Pole Vault Champion; 14 Gorloks Secure Top-10 Performances At Rose-Hulman

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Webster University men's track and field team competed in their second consecutive Friday meet of the indoor season at the Friday Night Spikes #2 hosted by Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. The Gorloks delivered impressive performances as Mark Govero was crowned the pole vault champion while 14 Gorloks secured top-10 finishes in several events at this meet. 

In the pole vault event, WU's Govero was crowned the champion with a clearance of 4.75m. In addition to Govero, Elijah Bohler secured fifth place with a clearance of 3.90m. WU's Landon Garland rounded out the field of competitors for Webster with a clearance of 3.75m. 

In the 3000m run, the Gorloks entered three student-athletes as Ethan Nieroda led the way for the Gorloks with a time of 9:50.80. In addition, first-year Daniel McClellan recorded a new personal-record in this event with a time of 9:58.03. WU's Johnny Imboden also recorded a new personal-record and rounded out the field of competitors for the Gorloks with a time of 9:59.57.

In the 1 Mile run event, first-year Noah Smith was the lone Webster competitor and recorded a time of 5:23.01.

In the 800m run, a trio of Gorloks competed in this event led by William Howells as he secured the fifth place with a time of 2:02.35. WU's Kenneth Louvierre also competed in the event and recorded a time of 2:19.77. Sophomore Jacob Hawkins rounded out the field out competitors for Webster with a time of 2:27.60.

In the 60m dash and out of the field of 25 competitors, WU's Dylan Patterson tied Wabash's Carter Leininger with the fastest preliminary time with a time of 7.09 seconds. In addition, WU's Steven Aubuchon recorded the seventh fastest preliminary time with a time of 7.20 seconds that qualified for finals. In finals, he ran a time of 7.22 seconds that secured fourth overall. First- year Lucas LaRue earned the 14th overall spot with a time of 7.50 seconds as Thomas Ogata rounded out the field of competitors for Webster with a time of 8.09 seconds.

In the 60m hurdles, WU's Armond Williams secured sixth place with a time of 9.18 seconds. In addition, Austin Merritt recorded a new personal-record in this event with a time of 9.32 seconds that earned seventh overall.

In the 4x400m relay, the Gorloks entered two teams as the team of Patterson, Merritt, Nic Richardson, and LaRue earned third place with a time of 3:32.27. The second team of Gorloks included Howells, Louvierre, Hawkins, and Mason Oldani as the team secured seventh overall with a time of 3:45.83.

In the long jump event, WU's Robin Wong achieved a new personal-record and secured second place with a mark of 6.27m. In addition, Merritt also competed in this event and earned eighth overall with a mark of 5.79m. WU's Thomas Ogata rounded out the field of competitors for Webster and tied his personal-record with a mark of 5.39m.

In the high jump, WU's Oldani earned fifth overall with a clearance of 1.75m while Nkunim Kauame secured eighth with a clearance of 1.60m.

In the pole vault event, WU's Mark Govero was crowned the champion with a clearance of 4.75m. In addition to Govero, Elijah Bohler secured fifth place with a clearance of 3.90m. WU's Landon Garland rounded out the field of competitors for Webster with a clearance of 3.75m.  

The Gorloks will continue their indoor season by participating in the two-day Washburn University Open and Multi's meet starting on Friday, January 31 in Topeka, Kansas.
