Gorloks Conclude Regular Season In Tennessee

CORDOVA, Tenn. - The Webster University golf team competed in their fourth spring tournament of the season at the two-day Bill Cochran Intercollegiate tournament hosted by Rhodes College on Monday and Tuesday. The Gorloks battled against several top-25 teams in the nation and recorded a three-round score of 968.

The Gorloks were led by sophomore Nico Marin with a three-round score of 239 (77, 78, and 84.). He opened his tournament on hole 18 and started two-over through the first six holes that included four pars. Following an unfortunate bogey on hole six, Marin responded with a birdie on the par-5 seventh hole. He closed out the first front nine holes of the first round with a par on hole eight for a score of 39.

The international student-athlete from Mexico continued his round on hole nine with a birdie that moved to one-over for the round. Following a par on hole 11, he followed up with a birdie on the par-three 12th hole that moved back to one-over. Following a tough three hole stretch on holes 13-15, he closed out the first round with back-to-back pars for a score of 77. For the round, he carded eight pars, six bogeys, three birdies, and one double-bogey.

Marin opened the second round on hole 18 and was even par through the first three holes that included a birdie on the par-5 first hole. In the next three holes, he added two pars and a double-bogey. He closed out the first nine holes of the second round with a birdie on the par-5 seventh hole and a par on hole eight for a score of 39. The right-handed golfer continued his round with three bogeys on holes nine through 11 but followed up with back-to-back pars on holes 12 and 13. After an unfortunate bogey on hole 14, he answered back with a birdie on the par-three 15th hole. He closed out the final two holes of day one with a par and a bogey for a score of 78. For the round, he carded seven pars, seven bogeys, three birdies, and one double-bogey.

Marin opened the final round on hole 13 and started three-over through the first three holes that included a par on hole 14. He continued his round with back-to-back pars on holes 16 and 17 before carding an unfortunate double-bogey on hole 18. Marin closed out the final three holes on the first nine holes three-over that included a par on hole two for a score of 45. The sophomore continued his round on hole four with a quad but then closed out his tournament with eight consecutive pars for a score of 84. For the round, he carded 12 pars, three double-bogeys, two bogeys, and a quad. For the tournament, he constructed 27 pars, 15 bogeys, six birdies, five double-bogeys, and a quad.  

Graduate-student Justin McCoy finished second on the team with a tournament score of 244 (76, 81, and 87). The captain opened his tournament on the par-five 16th with a par and then moved back to even-par for the round with a birdie on the par-five 18th hole. He closed out the first nine holes of the opening round with six consecutive pars for a score of 37. The Savoy, Illinois native continued his first round with a par of hole seven and shortly later carded back-to-back pars on holes nine and 10. Following two bogeys, he recorded a par on hole 13. He closed out the first round with a par on hole 15 for a score of 76. For the round, he carded 12 pars, five bogeys, and one birdie. 

McCoy began the second round on hole 16 and started one-over through the first three holes that included back-to-back pars on hole 16 and 17. McCoy continued his round with four consecutive pars on holes one through four. Following an unfortunate bogey on hole five, he closed out the first nine holes with a par on hole six for a score of 39. The fifth-year competitor continued the round on hole seven with a double-bogey and followed up with three straight pars on holes eight through 10. Following a three-hole stretch at five-over, he closed out the second round with back-to-back pars for a score of 81. For the round, he carded 12 pars, four bogeys, and two double-bogeys.

McCoy opened the final round on hole 14 and started five-over through the first six holes that included a par on hole 16. He closed out the final three holes of the final round with two pars and a bogey for a score of 43. He continued his final round with a par on hole five and later added a par on hole eight. He closed out the final five holes of the tournament seven-over for a score of 87. For the round, he carded 11 bogeys, five pars, and two double-bogeys. For the tournament, he recorded 29 pars, 20 bogeys, four double-bogeys, and one birdie.

Senior Trent Garrett was the next lowest score for the Gorloks as he recorded a tournament score of 247 (83, 81, and 83). He opened his tournament on hole 18 and started even-par through the first three holes that included three consecutive pars. For the next three holes, he moved to four-over for the round. He closed out the first nine holes of the tournament with three consecutive pars for a score of 40. 

Garrett continued his first round with a par on hole nine but followed up with three bogeys. Following that stretch, he recorded back-to-back pars on holes 13 and 14. He closed out the final three holes of round one at four-over par for a score of 83. For the round, he recorded nine pars, seven bogeys, and two double-bogeys.

The Chicago native began the second round on hole 18 and started five-over through the first five holes that include a par on hole one. He closed out the first nine holes of round two with four consecutive pars for a score of 42. Garrett continued his second round with a par on hole nine and later added another par on hole 11. Following a double-bogey on hole 12, he carded four straight pars. He closed out the second round with a bogey on hole 17 for the score of 81. For the round, he constructed 11 pars, five bogeys, and two double-bogeys.

The fourth-year competitor opened the final round on hole 14 and started two-over through the first three holes that included back-to-back pars on holes 15 and 16. Following a two-hole stretch at four-over par, he answered back with a birdie on the par-5 first hole. He capped off the first nine holes of round three with two bogeys and a par on hole four for the score of 43. 

Garrett continued his round on hole five with a par and later added his second birdie of the round on the par-5 seventh hole. Following a four-hole stretch at five-over, he closed out his tournament with back-to-back pars for the score of 83. For the round, he carded seven bogeys, six pars, three double-bogeys, and two birdies. For the tournament, he constructed 26 pars, 19 bogeys, seven double-bogeys, and two birdies.

First-year Cole Makgill added to the team score with a three-round tournament score of 251 (90, 80, and 81). He opened his tournament on hole 17 and started one-over par through the first three holes that included a birdie on the par-five 18th hole. Following a four-hole stretch above par, he closed out the first nine holes with back-to-back pars on holes six and seven for the score of 44. He continued his first round on hole eight with an unfortunate double-bogey and followed up with five straight bogeys. He closed out the final three holes above par that led to the score of 90. For the round, he recorded nine bogeys, five double-bogeys, three pars, and one birdie.

The international student-athlete from New Zealand began the second round on hole 17 and started two-under through the first four holes that included three pars and an eagle on hole one. Following a bogey on hole three, he carded a birdie on hole four to be at two-under for the round. He closed out the final three holes of the first nine holes with two pars and a bogey for the score of 36. Makgill continued the second round on hole eight with a bogey but responded with four straight pars on holes nine through 12. Following an unfortunate circle-10, he recorded a par on hole 14. He closed out the second round with a birdie on the par-five 16th hole for the score of 80. For the round, he recorded 10 pars, three bogeys, two birdies, one eagle, one triple-bogey, and a circle-10.  

The first-year competitor opened his final round on hole 15 and started six-over through the first five holes. Moments later, he responded with back-to-back pars on holes two and three. Following an unfortunate bogey on hole four, he closed out the first nine holes of the final round with a par for the score of 43. Makgill continued his round on hole six with a par and later added a birdie on hole eight. Following a three-hole stretch at two-over, he closed out the tournament with back-to-back pars on holes 13 and 14 for the score of 81. For the round, he carded eight pars, eight bogeys, one birdie, and a double-bogey. For the tournament, he constructed 21 pars, 20 bogeys, six double-bogeys, four birdies, one triple-bogey, and a circle-10. 

Sophomore Jacob LeBlanc rounded out the team score with a three-round score of 252 (79, 88, and 85). He opened his tournament on hole 17 and started even-par through the first three holes that included an eagle on the par-five first hole. He followed up with back-to-back par on holes five and six. He closed out the first nine holes of the tournament with a score of 39. LeBlanc continued his round on hole eight with a bogey but followed up with a birdie on hole nine. Through the 10th and 12th holes, he carded two birdies and a bogey. He closed out the final five holes of the first round five-over that led to the score of 79. For the round, he recorded eight pars, six bogeys, two double-bogeys, one eagle, and a birdie.

The international student-athlete from Canada began the second round on hole 17 and started two-over through the first three holes that included a birdie on the par-five 18th hole and a par on hole one. He closed out the first nine holes with a score of 47. LeBlanc continued the second round on hole eight with a par and followed up with a birdie on hole nine. Following a stretch of bogeys, he carded a par on hole 14. He closed out the final two holes of the second round three-over for the score of 88. For the round, he carded 10 bogeys, three pars, two birdies, two double-bogeys, and a triple-bogey. 

The second-year competitor opened the final round on hole 15 and started even-par through the first two holes that included a birdie on the par-five 16th hole. Following a six-hole stretch of above par, he closed out the first nine holes with a par on hole five for the score of 44. LeBlanc continued the final round with consecutive bogeys but responded with back-to-back pars on holes eight and nine. Following a three-hole stretch at three-over par, he closed out his tournament with three straight pars for the score of 85. For the round, he recorded eight bogeys, six pars, three double-bogeys, and a birdie. For the tournament, he constructed 24 bogeys, 17 pars, seven double-bogeys, four birdies, one eagle, and a triple-bogey. 

The Gorloks will participate in the 2025 SLIAC Golf Championships on May 4-6 at Timbergate Golf Course in Edinburgh, Indiana
