Austin Merritt was selected as the SLIAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week for the week of April 14-20.
Last Thursday and Friday at the Gibson Invitational hosted by Division 1 Indiana State University, Merritt set the new all-time Webster University Men's Track & Field Outdoor Decathlon school record with 5,529 points that included three top 10 finishes.
On Thursday, Merritt competed in five events; 100m dash (10.93 seconds / 2nd place, 876 points), 400m dash (52.52 seconds / 6th place, 702 points), Shot Put (11.39m / 8th place, 569 points), High Jump (1.76m /11th place, 593 points), Long Jump (5.48m / 21st place, 477 points)
On Friday, Merritt capped off the decathlon with five events; Discus Throw (29.08m / 13th place, 446 points), Pole Vault (3.55m / 15th place, 496 points), Javelin (39.63m / 15th place, 437 points), 110m hurdles (17.32 seconds / 18th place, 591 points), 1500m run (5:42.08 / 18th place, 342 points)
Merritt shattered the ten-year standing record set by Mason Stevens back in 2015 by 268 points.
