Six Gorloks Earn A Top 10 Finish At USF Fighting Chance Invite

JOLIET, Ill. - The Webster University men's track and field team traveled to the University of St. Francis and competed in the two-day USF Fighting Chance Invite on Friday and Saturday. As a team, the Gorloks secured eight top-10 finishes while three Gorloks set new personal records at this meet. 

In the high jump, first-year and SLIAC Third Team All-Conference selection Nkunim Kouame secured a ninth overall finish with a clearance of 1.78m. Sophomore Mason Oldani secured 12th overall with a clearance of 1.75m.

In the pole vault, the SLIAC Men's Outdoor champion Mark Govero recorded a clearance of 4.65m that earned a second place finish. First-year and a SLIAC Second Team All-Conference honoree Elijah Bohler secured an eighth place finish with a height of 4.05m.

In the 100m dash, SLIAC Third Team All-Conference sprinter Austin Merritt set a new personal record with a time of 10.67 seconds in the prelims which qualified for finals. In the finals, he secured a fifth overall finish with a time of 10.78. In addition, the SLIAC 2025 Men's Outdoor champion in this event Dylan Patterson secured a new personal record with a time of 10.68 seconds in prelims that qualified for finals. In the finals, he earned a third place finish with a time of 10.71 seconds.

In the 200m dash, Merritt achieved a new personal record with a time of 21.50 seconds that earned a sixth place finish. WU's Patterson achieved a new personal record with a time of 21.72 seconds that placed 10th overall.

In the 800m, senior William Howells was the lone Webster competitor in the event as he recorded a time of 2:01.32. In the 1500m, the Webster Groves native earned a 12th place finish with a time of 4:12.11.

In the 110m hurdles event, first-year Lucas LaRue achieved a new personal record with a time of 16.15 seconds that secured a 10th overall finish in the prelims. 

In the 4x100m relay, the relay team of Steven Aubuchon, Merritt, LaRue, and Patterson recorded a time of 42.66.

In the triple jump event, first-year Robin Wong secured 13th place with a mark 12.42m

The Gorloks will continue the 2025 Outdoor season on Wednesday, May 14 competing in the Augustana College Midwest Twilight Qualifier in Rock Island, Illinois.
