WU’s Justin McCoy Ranks Inside Top-15 After Day One Of Capital City Classic Tournament

PRATTVILLE, Ala. - The Webster University men's golf team continued the spring season with the opening round at the Capital City Classic hosted by Huntingdon College on Monday. WU's Justin McCoy recorded an even-par score of 72. As a team, the Gorloks constructed a score of 304.

The Gorloks were led by McCoy as he opened his tournament on hole 16 and recorded five consecutive pars. Following an unfortunate bogey on hole three, he answered right back with a birdie on hole four. He closed out the first nine holes with a birdie on hole six for a score of 35.

The Savoy, Illinois native opened the final nine holes of the opening round on hole seven and recorded three straight pars. In the next three holes, he carded two bogeys and a par on hole 11. He closed out the final three holes of the day with two pars and a birdie on hole 14 for a score of 72. For the round, he carded 12 pars, three birdies, and three bogeys.

Senior Trent Garrett and sophomore Nico Marin tied for the second lowest score for the Gorloks with five-over scores of 77. Garrett opened his tournament on hole 18 and got off to a three-hole par streak. Following an unfortunate double-bogey on hole three, he followed up with back-to-back pars on holes four and five. He closed out the final three holes of the first nine hole three-over that included a par on hole eight for the score of 41.

The Chicago, Illinois native opened the final nine holes with a par on hole nine. After back-to-back bogeys on holes 10 and 11, he carded five consecutive pars. He closed out the opening round with an eagle on the par-five 17th hole that led to a score of 77. For the round, he carded 12 pars, three bogeys, two double-bogeys, and an eagle.

Marin opened his tournament on hole 16 and was two-over through the first three holes that included a birdie on hole 17. He continued his round with three consecutive pars on hole one through three. Following an unfortunate bogey on hole four, he closed out the first nine holes with back-to-back pars on holes five and six for a score of 39.

The international student-athletes from Mexico opened the final nine holes of the opening round on hole seven with a bogey but responded with a birdie on a par-5 eighth hole. Moments later, he carded back-to-back pars. Shortly later, he added a three-hole par streak on holes 12-14. He closed out the opening round with a bogey on hole 15 for the score of 77. For the round, he carded 10 pars, five bogeys, two birdies, and a double-bogey

First-year Cole Makgill added to the team score with a six-over par score of 78. He opened his tournament on hole 18 and recorded consecutives pars. For the next three holes, Makgill went four-over par with two bogeys. Moments later, he responded with back-to-back birdies on holes fives and six that got back to even-par for the round. He closed out the first nine holes with a par on hole eight for a score of 39.

The international student-athlete from New Zealand opened the final nine holes of the day on hole nine and carded consecutive pars. Moments later, he recorded back-to-back birdies on holes 11 and 12 that got to one-over par for the round. He continued the round with consecutive pars on holes 13 and 14. Makgill closed out the final three holes of the first round six-over that included a par on hole 16. For the round, he carded eight pars, four bogeys, four birdies, a double-bogey, and a quad.

Sophomore Jacob LeBlanc rounded out the team score with a nine-over par score of 81. He opened the tournament on hole 17 and started three-over through the first four holes. He closed out the first nine holes with five consecutive pars for the score of 39.

The international student-athlete from Canada opened the final nine holes of the opening round on hole eight with a par. Following consecutive bogeys, he responded with a birdie on hole 11 that moved to four-over for the round. He closed out the final five holes five-over par that included a par on hole 13. For the round, he carded eight pars, eight bogeys, one birdie, and one double-bogey.

The Gorloks will conclude the two-day tournament with the final round on Tuesday, April 8 starting at 8:00PM.
