Makgill and Marin Record Under-Par Rounds; Gorloks Improve 25 Strokes For Fifth At SLIAC Championships.

EDINBURGH, Ind. - The Webster University golf team returned to Timbergate Golf Course for the second round of the 2025 SLIAC Championships on Monday. Cole Makgill led the team with a three-under score of 69 which marks his lowest collegiate round of his career while Nico Marin carded a one-under round of 71. As a team, the Gorloks improved 25 strokes from the opening round, recorded the second lowest-team score of the day of 284 (lowest team round of the season) which averages to four-under par, and moved up one spot to fifth overall.

Makgill led the team with a three-under par round of 69 as he got off to a great start with a birdie on the first hole. On the next three holes, Makgill recorded two bogeys and a par that moved to one-over for the round. He closed out the front nine holes with five pars and got back to even-par with a birdie on the par-3 eighth hole for a score of 36.

The New Zealand native opened the back nine with a par on hole 10 and followed up with a birdie on the par-three 11th hole that moved to one-under for the day. Following back-to-back pars on holes 13 and 14, he carded an unfortunate bogey on hole 14. On the next three holes (15-17), Makgill was dialed in as he recorded two birdies (15 and 17) and an eagle on the par-five 16th hole that moved to four-under for the round. He closed out the second round with a bogey on hole 18 for a score of 69. For the round, he moved up 17 spots on the player leaderboard for a tie for 15th overall that included eight pars, five birdies, four bogey, and an eagle.

Marin opened his second round three-under par through the first four holes that included three birdies on holes one, two, and four. He closed out the front nine holes with five consecutive pars for a two-under score of 34. The Mexico native opened the back nine holes with a birdie on hole 10 and followed up with five consecutive pars that moved to three-under for the round. However, on the par-five 16th hole, he carded a double-bogey that moved to one-under par. He closed out the final two holes of the second round with consecutive pars for the score of 71. For the round, he moved up 11 spots on the player leaderboard to 21st overall that included 12 pars, four birdies, one bogey, and one triple-bogey.

The leader on day one for the Gorloks in Justin McCoy contributed to the team score with an even-par round of 72. He opened the second round with five consecutive pars and followed up with a double-bogey on the par-5 sixth hole. He closed out the front nine holes with three straight pars for a score of 38. The two-year captain opened the back-nine hole with a birdie on hole 10 and followed up with seven straight pars. He closed out the second round with a birdie on hole 18 for a score of 72. For the round, he moved to a tie for 15th overall that included 15 pars, two birdies, and a double-bogey.

Sophomore Jacob LeBlanc opened his second round two-under through the first four holes that included pars on holes one and two and back-to-back birdies on holes three and four. Following a par on hole five, he carded a bogey on hole six that moved to one-under for the round. He closed out the front nine holes with back-to-back birdies on holes seven and eight and added a par on hole nine for a three-run score of 33.

The Canada native opened the back nine hole with a par on hole 10 and made a bogey on hole 11 that moved to two-under for the round. Following that bogey, he carded three straight pars on holes 12 through 14 before taking a double-bogey in the 15th hole. He closed out the final three holes of the round at even-par that included a birdie on hole 17. For the round, he moved up nine spots in the player leaderboard to 23rd overall that included nine pars, five birdies, three bogeys, and a double-bogey.

Senior Trent Garrett rounded out the fantastic team score with a three-over par score of 75. He opened the second round three-over through four holes that included a par on hole one and three consecutive bogeys. He closed out the front nine holes with four pars and a bogey on hole nine for a score of 40. The Chicago native opened the back nine with three straight pars on holes 10 through 12. Moments later, he carded his lone birdie of the round on the par-five 13th hole that moved to three-over for the day. He closed out the second round with five straight pars that led to a score of 78. For the round, Garrett moved up five spots in the player leaderboard that included 13 pars, four bogeys, and one birdie.

The Gorloks will close out the three-day tournament on Tuesday, May 6 with the final round starting at 9:00AM.
