WU’s McCoy Secures 12th Place Overall; Gorloks Finish Sixth At 2025 SLIAC Championships

EDINBURGH, Ind. - The Webster University golf team closed out tournament play at the 2025 SLIAC Championships with the final round at Timbergate Golf Course on Tuesday. WU's Justin McCoy led the team with a two-over par score of 74 that secured 12th overall. The Gorloks recorded a final round score of 307 that earned a sixth place finish.   

McCoy capped off his fantastic five-year Gorlok career with his final 18 holes and recorded a two-over par score of 74. He opened the final round on hole 15 with a par and followed up with birdies on holes 16 and 18. Following consecutive bogeys on holes one and two, he closed out the first nine holes with three consecutive pars for an even-par score of 36.  

The two-year captain opened the back nine holes with a par on hole six with a par and added another par on hole eight. On the par-4 ninth hole, McCoy carded a birdie that moved back to even-par for the round. He continued his round with a par on hole 10 and carded a bogey on the 11th hole. McCoy closed out the final three holes with back-to-back pars on holes 12 and 13 and a bogey the 14th hole for the score of 74. With the combination of all three rounds (75, 72, and 74), he recorded a tournament score of 221 that included 40 pars, eight bogeys, five birdies, and a double-bogey.   

Nico Marin closed out his sophomore campaign with a four-over par score of 76 that placed 22nd overall. He opened the final round on hole 13 with a par and followed up with three bogeys on holes 14-16. He continued the first nine holes with three consecutive pars on holes 17, 18, and one. Following a bogey on hole two, Marin closed out the first nine holes with a par on hole three for a score of 40. 

The international student from Mexico opened the back nine holes with six consecutive pars on holes four through nine. He closed out the final three holes with a birdie on hole 11 and a par on hole 12 for the score of 76. With the combination of all three rounds (78, 71, and 76), he recorded a tournament score of 225 that included 34 pars, 11 bogeys, seven birdies, and two triple-bogeys. 

First-year Cole Makgill closed out his first SLIAC Championships with a seven-over par score of 78 that placed 24th overall. He opened the final round on hole 14 and was three-over par through the first five holes that included back-to-back pars on holes 15 and 16. He closed out the first nine holes three consecutive pars on holes one through three and carded a bogey on the fourth hole for the score of 40. 

The international student-athlete from New Zealand opened the back nine hole with a par on hole five and followed up with an eagle on the par-5 sixth hole that moved to two-over for the round. Following a four-hole stretch at six-over, he closed out the tournament with a birdie on hole 12 and a par on hole 13 for the score of 79. With the combination of all three rounds (78, 69, and 79) he carded 24 pars, 16 bogeys, nine birdies, two eagles, and two double-bogeys. 

Sophomore Jacob LeBlanc concluded his tournament with a six-over par score of 78 that placed 28th overall. He opened the final round on hole 13 with a birdie on the par-five 13th hole. On the next five holes, he carded three bogeys and two pars that moved to two-over on the round. LeBlanc closed out the front nine holes with three consecutive pars for a score of 38.

The Canada native opened the final nine holes with a birdie on the par-5 fourth hole and followed up with back-to-back pars on holes five and six. Following a four-hole stretch at five-over, he closed out the round with consecutive pars on holes 11 and 12. With the addition of all three rounds (78, 72, and 78), he carded 28 pars, 13 bogeys, nine birdies, and four double-bogeys.

Senior Trent Garrett rounded out the team score with a 10-over par score of 82 in the final round that placed 39th overall. He opened the final round on hole 12 and was three-over through the first three holes that included pars on holes 12 and 14. Following a three-hole stretch at four-over, he carded a par on the 18th hole. Garrett closed out the first nine holes with a score of 46. 

The Chicago, Illinois native opened the back nine holes with six consecutive pars on holes three through eight. Following a double-bogey on hole nine, he closed out his tournament with a par on hole 10 and a birdie on the 11th hole. With the combination of all three rounds (79, 75, and 82), he carded 30 pars, 12 bogeys, six birdies, and six double-bogeys.
