Women's Soccer Defeats Maryville 3-2 for 100th SLIAC Victory

The Webster University women’s soccer team added another tally to the win column with their 3-2 victory over Maryville University on Sept 30 and at the same time captured the 100th SLIAC victory in the 10 year history of the program.  The win brings the Gorloks to 11-2 overall, and 3-0 in SLIAC conference play.  This is the first of nine consecutive conference games for the Gorloks.

The game started with Maryville on the attack.  The Gorloks were on their heels early on.  The Maryville attack led to a soft defense that WU took advantage of early, scoring two goals in the first half.  The first came via a penalty kick from Christy Capkovic, and the second on a beautiful lob from team captain Jenna Steiner.

The second half brought more of the same from the Maryville offense.  WU keeper Jessica Kozeny played wonderfully in goal.  Midway through the second, WU added another goal from junior Mallory Morris, after she made some great penetration into the MU defense.  After that goal, things got complicated for Webster.  Maryville finally answered back with two goals of their own, and forced WU to draw back.  However, WU would allow no more, and held on for a 3-2 win.

The women now have a long break, with their next game not coming until Oct 8.  On that date, the Gorloks will take on Blackburn College at 5 p.m. at AB Soccer Park.  This is another SLIAC conference match up. Webster defeated Blackburn 5-0 in their earlier contest this season.
