The Webster University women's soccer team proved again it takes more than a lot of rain to slow down its scoring pace, defeating Eureka College (IL), 5-0, on October 29 at the Soccer Park. The game, shortened to 70 minutes, was played through a steady downpour and delayed 30 minutes because of lightning.
Webster scored four goals in the first 18 minutes of the game. Senior Jenna Steiner (Jefferson City HS, MO) scored her second goal of the season and junior Megan Niederschulte (Pattonville HS, STL) added her 18th. Senior Kristin Garlich (Hazelwood West HS, STL) scored her second goal of her four-year career, and her first since her freshman year.
Christy Capkovic (JR, Mehlville HS, STL) completed the stretch with a goal at the 18:00 mark, and added the lone second-half goal at 53:30. The goals gave Capkovic 29 for the year and extended her own single season record.
Freshmen GKs Shelby Wade (Francis Howel HS, STL) and Maria Arias (Lincoln HS, Costa Rica) once again shared the shutout. The win put Wade's record in goal at 11-2.
Both head coaches and the officials agreed to stop the contest at the 70:00 mark, when the game was "official." Webster is now 5-1 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, and 13-3 overall. Webster clinched second place in the SLIAC and are assured of a home game in the first round of the conference tournament.
The regular season ends on the road for the Gorloks on October 31 at MacMurray College (IL).
