Bears Too Tall of an Order For Gorloks

Washington U. 88 Webster 40

The Webster University women's basketball team got lost in the tall timbers, losing on the road to Washington University, 88-40, on January 4.  The Bears are currently ranked fourth in the nation in the NCAA Division III.

Webster hung close early on, but an 18-0 run by the Bears put the Gorloks in a deep hole.  The Gorloks couldn't overcome a height disadvantage, the Bear's have seven six-footers on their roster, as Webster was limited to 25 percent shooting for the game.  Webster battled on the boards, picking up a season high 19 offensive rebounds, but it wasn't enough.

Freshman Airyn Miller (Belleville West HS, IL) led the Gorloks in scoring with her second straight 11 point effort .  Ayrica Lockett (SO, Crossroads Prep, STL) pulled down nine rebounds to lead Webster.    The Gorloks were missing starting forward Tori Fenemor (FR, St. Charles HS, STL), the team's second-leading scorer and rebounder.  Fenemor sustained a rib injury against Spalding University (KY) on January 2.

Webster is back in action on January 6, at home, vs. Eureka College (IL).  The Gorloks (3-0) are in first place in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play, and 7-4 overall.
