Montgomery Helps Squad to Victory

Box Score Kristin Montgomery's two second-half goals helped the Webster University women's soccer team to a 4-1 conference victory over Principia College (Ill.) Tuesday (Oct. 15) at St. Louis Soccer Park.

Less than four minutes into the second half, Montgomery (St. Louis, MO / Duchesne), a junior forward, scored to give the Gorloks a 3-0 lead. Two and a half minutes later, Montgomery scored yet again to record her fifth goal of the season and fourth in four games.

Montgomery leads Webster in points with 18 (five goals, eight assists). She ranks 12th in the nation in NCAA Division III in assists per game.

Junior defender Amy Schield (Belleville, IL / Belleville West) tallied her second goal in three games on a well-struck header in the 11th minute. Junior midfielder Lindsey Adshade's (Chicago, IL / DeKalb) perfectly placed corner kick set up Schield's goal.

In the 36th minute, sophomore defender Jessica Mess (St. Louis, MO / Northwest) notched her third goal of the year, which turned out to be the game-winner.

Sophomore forward Lauren Pratt (St. Louis, MO / Incarnate Word) earned an assist and now has seven helpers on the season, second only to Montgomery's eight.

Junior goalkeeper Jessica Davis (Belleville, IL / Belleville West) made two saves as Webster outshot the visitors 17-4, including 13-0 in the first half. Davis's goals against average is 0.67 for the season. Prior to tonight, she ranked 41st in the nation for lowest GAA.

The Gorloks have won four games in a row and outscored their opponents 21-1 during that span.

Webster improved its all-time record against Principia to 12-10-3 with the win Tuesday night.

Since 2004, Webster and Principia have been the only two schools to win the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament. Webster, the 2012 SLIAC tournament champion, has won five of the past nine conference tournaments, while Principia won four during that time frame.

Webster (12-2 overall, 4-0 SLIAC) is tied for first place in the SLIAC standings with Fontbonne, whom the Gorloks face this Saturday (Oct. 19) at 3 p.m. in Clayton.
