Webster Wraps Up First Place

Box Score On Senior Night, Webster University's women's soccer team won its eighth straight game and earned its 10th shutout of the season in a 7-0 win over Westminster College (Mo.) Tuesday (Oct. 29) at St. Louis Soccer Park.
 
With the win, the Gorloks clinched first place in the regular season standings and home-field advantage throughout the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament.
 
The Gorloks have outscored their opponents, 39-3, during their eight-game winning streak. Webster has scored 70 goals this season (3.9 goals per game) while conceding 11 (0.6 goals per game). Prior to tonight, Webster ranked 12th in the nation in NCAA Division III in team offense and 49th in team defense.
 
Junior Kristin Montgomery (St. Louis, MO / Duchesne) and sophomore Briana Small (Chicago, IL / Lake Park) both scored and added two assists for four points apiece. Montgomery leads the Gorloks in points this season with 24 (seven goals, 10 assists). She ranks ninth in program history in career goals (29) and career points (72).
 
Sophomore Jessica Mess (St. Louis, MO / Northwest) scored for the fourth time in five games and contributed an assist. Senior Jordan Fosburgh (Collinsville, IL / Collinsville) scored in her third straight game and tallied her second game-winning goal in as many contests.
 
Senior Ally Nikolaus (St. Louis, MO / St. Joseph's Academy), sophomore Lauren Pratt (St. Louis, MO / Incarnate Word) and freshman Brianna Luaders (St. Louis, MO / St. Pius X) also recorded goals for Webster. Nikolaus ranks 10th in program history in career goals (26) and career points (68).
 
Junior Lindsey Adshade (Chicago, IL / DeKalb) was credited with her eighth assist, which ranks her third on the team.

Pratt, Montgomery and Adshade rank 19th, 45th, and 80th, respectively, in the nation for most assists in this week's NCAA statistical report.
 
Junior Jessica Davis (Belleville, IL / Belleville West) made one save to pick up her eighth solo shutout of the season. At the start of the week, Davis ranked 36th in the nation in Division III in goals against average.
 
Five seniors — Nikolaus, Fosburgh, Kelsey Tsukayama (St. Louis, MO / Ft. Zumwalt South), Katie Aubuchon (St. Louis, MO / Affton), and Kristen Muehlenfeld (Quincy, IL / Quincy) — were honored in a pregame ceremony for their contributions to the program.
 
The Gorloks improved to 16-2 overall and 8-0 in the SLIAC with the win. Webster is the SLIAC's lone unbeaten team in conference play. Webster is ranked ninth in the Central Region, according to a poll by the National Soccer Coaches Association.
 
The Gorloks conclude their regular season with a home game against Iowa Wesleyan Saturday (Nov. 2) at 3 p.m. at Soccer Park. If Webster wins that contest, it will be the team's first perfect SLIAC season since 2006.
 
The Gorloks will host a SLIAC tournament semifinal game next Thursday (Nov. 7) against an opponent and at a time to be determined.
