Gorloks fall to Wheaton in NCAA tourney

Box Score The Webster University women's soccer team fell 4-0 at Wheaton College (Ill.), the No. 4-ranked team in the nation, in the first round of the NCAA Division III national tournament Friday (Nov. 15).
 
This was Webster's second consecutive appearance in the NCAA tournament and 10th in 14 years. The Gorloks qualified for the national tournament by winning their sixth SLIAC tournament championship, all of which have come in the last nine years.
 
Webster (19-3 overall, 9-0 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) set a program record for wins in a season, surpassing the 2001 squad that won 18 games. The Gorloks' won-loss-tied percentage (.864) is the second-highest mark in program history.
 
Webster was listed among those receiving votes for the national top-25 poll conducted by D3Soccer.com and was ranked 10th in the Central Region according to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
 
Webster tallied 89 goals this season (4.05 per game) and conceded 16 goals (0.73 per game). Entering the national tournament, the Gorloks had the sixth-highest scoring offense and the 29th-best goals-against average in NCAA Division III.
 
Twenty-one players will be eligible to return next season, as six seniors — Jordan Fosburgh, Kelsey Tsukayama (St. Louis, MO / Ft. Zumwalt South), Katie Aubuchon, Freddie Brandt (Davis, CA / Davis), Kristen Muehlenfeld and Ally Nikolaus — played their final game for the Gorloks.
 
Nikolaus (St. Louis, MO / St. Joseph's Academy) scored 10 goals and chipped in seven assists for 27 points this season en route to being named SLIAC Player of the Year. In her three-year Webster career, Nikolaus compiled 28 goals and 19 assists for 75 points. Nikolaus's 75 points rank her ninth in school history and her 28 goals rank her tied for ninth. She was selected to the All-Conference first team three times.
 
Fosburgh (Collinsville, IL / Collinsville) recorded 10 goals and four assists this season for 24 points, and she was named MVP of the 2013 SLIAC tournament. For her four-year Webster career, Fosburgh notched 21 goals and nine assists for 51 points. Fosburgh's 21 goals rank her 12th in school history while her 51 points tie her for 16th.
 
Aubuchon (St. Louis, MO / Affton) scored 12 goals and added 14 assists for 38 points during her four-year career at Webster. Muehlenfeld (Quincy, IL / Quincy) played in 76 games and started 72 of them during her four-year Gorlok career.
