Â
Webster is the defending conference champion. If the Gorloks win the tournament, it will be their 19th win of the season, breaking the record of 18 set by the 2001 squad.
Â
It was that 2001 team that also set the school record for goals in a game with 19 against Stephens (Mo.). Today's outburst was the fourth highest in school history.
Â
Eleven different players scored for the Gorloks, led by Ally Nikolaus (St. Louis, MO / St. Joseph's Academy) and Briana Small (Chicago, IL / Lake Park), who each tallied a pair of goals.
Â
Other goals scorers were Lauren Pratt, Ashley Mess, Jessica Mess, Jordan Fosburgh, Kristen Muehlenfeld, Sarah Darabcsek, Kelsey Tsukayama, Lauren Nuelle, and Lauren Bordeaux.
Â
This is the third time this season Nikolaus has scored twice in a game. She accomplished the feat once last season and once in 2011. The senior leads the team with 10 goals this season, one shy of her career high. This is Small's first two-goal performance of the season.
Â
In addition to her goal, Pratt (St. Louis, MO / Incarnate Word) had three assists, one shy of school record. The last Gorlok to have three or more assists in a contest was Lauren Scalise with four helpers Oct. 2, 2011, against Eureka. Pratt leads the team with 13 assists this season and is tied for the team lead with 27 points.
Â
Ashley Mess (St. Louis, MO / Northwest) had a four-point game thanks to her goal and two assists. She is fourth on the team with 23 points. The goal by Jessica Mess (St. Louis, MO / Northwest) moved her into fifth place in team scoring with 19 points.
Â
Fosburgh (Collinsville, IL / Collinsville), a senior, has seven goals and 17 points this season, surpassing her previous high in both categories.
Â
Muehlenfeld (Quincy, IL / Quincy), Darabcsek (St. Louis, MO / Timberland) and Tsukayama (St. Louis, MO / Ft. Zumwalt South) each got their first goal of the season. For the former two, it was their first collegiate career goal. Prior to today, Muehlenfeld, a senior defender, had played 72 career games, starting 68 of them, without a goal.
Â
This is the sixth time in its program's history that the Gorloks have gone unbeaten and untied in conference play and the first since the 2006 team had an 8-0 mark in the SLIAC.
