Mess Scores a Pair in Webster Win

Team Record is Perfect 5-0

Box Score Sophomore Jessica Mess scored two goals to help undefeated Webster University to its fifth straight win, 2-0 at home against DePauw University (Ind.).

For Mess (St. Louis, MO / Northwest), the two-goal game was the first of her career. She tallied four goals last season as a freshman. The last Gorlok with two scores in a contest was Ashley Mess against Fontbonne on Oct. 31, 2012.

Sophomores Lauren Pratt (St. Louis, MO / Incarnate Word) and Jenna Hopkins (Springfield, IL / Sacred Heart) were each credited with an assist. Pratt's assist was her third of the season, tops among the Gorloks.

Freshman goalie Maura Alroth (Chicago, IL / Lincoln Way North) recorded three saves in the first complete-game shutout of her collegiate career. [She shared a shutout earlier this season.]

Webster is 5-0 on the season, its first such start since 2008. Today marked the team's fourth shutout in five games. Last season, the team needed seven games to notch its fourth shutout on the way to tying the school record of 14 shutouts.

This was the first-ever meeting between these two schools.

Webster has two days off before hosting Millikin (Ill.) on Wednesday (Sept. 11) at Soccer Park. Game time is 5 pm.
