Box Score The Webster University women's soccer team won its third straight St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game, downing Spalding University, 7-0. The Gorloks remain undefeated at 3-0 with the win, on October 9, at the Soccer Park. The win was Webster's 13th straight in the SLIAC in regular season play, dating back to 2012.
In a contest that was a tale of two halves, the Gorlok offense broke through at 42:22 of the first. Brianna Pagan (FR, St. Louis, MO/Washington) scored on a scramble in front of the Golden Eagle net after Webster had gone 42 minutes without a goal. Ashley Mess (JR, St. Louis, MO/Northwest HS) was credited with the assist.
For Pagan, it was the fifth goal of her freshman campaign. Webster outshot Spalding, 8-0, for the half but with only two shots on goal. The second half would be a very different story Ashley Mess got the Gorloks on the board quickly in the second half, scoring less than two minutes in on a header off a corner kick from Lindsey Adshade (SR, Chicago, IL/DeKalb HS) to make it 2-0.
Adshade also assisted on the third Webster goal at 55:13, crossing the ball to Kristin Montgomery (SR, St. Louis, MO/Duchesne HS), who scored her second of the season. Just over three minutes later, Whitney Scott (SR, Independence, KY/Holy Cross HS) scored off a cross from Kayla Dye (FR, St. Louis, MO/Windsor HS) to make it 4-0.
Lauren Pratt (JR, St. Louis, MO/Incarnate Word Academy), back from missing several games due to injury, made it three goals in less than nine minutes with her third of the season at 63:46. That goal was assisted by Kelsey Hausmann (FR, St. Louis, MO/Mehlville HS).
Vanessa Carlos (JR, Covina, CA/Sierra Vista HS) scored her sixth goal of the season at 82:00, assisted by Freddie Brandt (SR, Davis, CA/Davis HS). That Carlos with Dye for the team lead on the season. Brandt capped the scoring for Webster with a goal of her own at 85:24, her first of the season, for the 7-0 final. Webster outshot Spalding, 18-6, in the second half, with 16 of those shots on goal.
The Golden Eagles missed a golden opportunity to break the shutout when Brandt was called for a foul in the Webster box at the 80:00 mark. Gorlok goalie Rachael Ainsworth (FR, Salt Lake City, UT/Salt Lake School for Science Education) preserved the shutout with a save on the Spalding penalty kick and a save on a rebound shot.
For Ainsworth it was her third straight shutout against SLIAC opponents. She has allowed only two goals in her last five games, going 3-1-1 in that stretch. She is 4-2-1 on the season and has a 0.65 goals against average.
Webster is 6-4-3 overall. The Gorloks are back at home on October 14 as they host MacMurray College (IL). It is 'Pack the House' night at the Soccer Park. All Webster student athletes, students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to come out and support the efforts of the Webster women's and men's soccer teams that evening.
