Gorloks Give Ladys the Blues in 5-1 Win

Box Score The Webster University women's soccer team notched one in the victory column with a 5-1 win over Illinois College, on September 23, at the Soccer Park.  The Gorlok offense got untracked in a big way, with five different players scoring in the contest.

Webster took a 2-0 halftime lead, then coasted in the second half as the team netted three more goals, one more than the Gorloks had scored in their three previous contests combined. Kristin Montgomery (SR, St. Charles, MO/Duchesne HS) scored the game's first goal, her first of the season, on a shot from 15 yards out into the upper left corner at 16:00.  Kayla Dye (FR, St. Louis, MO/Windsor HS) assisted on the goal.

Jessica Mess (SR, St. Louis, MO/Northwest HS) made it 2-0, at 21:36, with her second goal of the year.  Lauren Nuelle (SO, St. Louis, MO/St. Joseph's Academy) found Mess open inside the penalty box on the left side and she shot it just inside the right post for the score.  Webster took a 2-0 lead into the locker room.

Illinois College scored its lone goal at 48:30 in the second half, to cut the Gorlok lead to 2-1.  A misplayed ball left a Lady Blue forward alone right in front of the Webster net as she fired the ball past Gorlok goalie Rachael Ainsworth (FR, Salt Lake City, UT/Salt Lake Center for Science Education).

Allie Ferguson (SO, Highland, IL/Highland HS) got that goal back at 61:15 when Montgomery found her wide open, just inside the Lady Blue penalty box, and she fired the ball into the lower left corner for her team-leading third goal.

Freshman Brianna Pagan (St. Louis, MO/Washington HS) padded the Webster lead to 4-1 with a goal at the 66:00 mark, assisted by Ferguson.  That tied Pagan with Ferguson for the team lead with three.  Just eighteen seconds later Vanessa Carlos (JR, Covina, CA / Sierra Vista) scored her first goal as a Gorlok to make it 5-1.  Lindsey Adshade (SR, Chicago, IL/DeKalb HS) picked up the assist on Carlos' goal.

Ainsworth recorded her first collegiate win in the victory.   Ainsworth was fresh off being honored by the SLIAC as the Defensive Player of the Week for September 15-21.

The Gorloks outshot the Lady Blues, 19-6, including 13 shots on goal, for the game.  Webster was able to utilize 21 players in the contest.

Webster improves to 3-3-3 on the season with the win.  The Gorloks open the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference schedule with a game at Iowa Wesleyan College, on September 26, in Mt. Pleasant, IA.  The Gorloks stop at Rock Island, IL, for a game with Augustana College on September 27, then have a week off before travelling to Eureka College (IL) on October 4.
