Big Comeback Fuels Gorlok Win At North Central

Box Score Down 2-0 just 16 minutes into a game on the road against a team with a five-game win streak, the Webster University women's soccer team buckled in and came back for a 3-2 win over North Central College.  The Gorloks win over the Cardinals took place in Naperville, IL, on September 20.

North Central took a quick 2-0 lead on goals at the 7:33 and 15:48 mark.  Webster battled back and got on the board when freshman Gaby Medrano (New Braunfels, TX/Canyon HS) scored her first collegiate goal for the Gorloks at the 25:00 mark.

Kayla Dye (SO, St. Louis, MO/Windsor HS) put Webster even with her first goal of the season at 38:07, sending the teams into halftime tied at 2-2.

With 19:08 left in the contest, Brianna Pagan (SO, St. Louis, MO/Washington HS) scored her first goal of the year to give the Gorloks their first lead of the game.  The Webster defense held off North Central the rest of the way for a 3-2 victory.

Webster outshot North Central, 15-10, and had 11 shots on goal to the Cardinals' 5.  Alisa Coralic (FR, St. Louis, MO/Mehlville HS) got the start in goal for Webster, and after the rocky start, settled down and shut out North Central for the final 74 minutes, making three saves.  With the win, Coralic is 3-0 for her freshman campaign.

Unfortunately, one of the Cardinal players suffered a significant injury with only 33 seconds remaining, requiring medical attention and assistance from an ambulance.

The Cardinals, a member of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, entered the contest at 5-1 and receiving votes in the Central Region rankings.  North Central had won five straight since a loss in their season opener.

Webster evens its season record at 3-3.  The Gorloks travel to Decatur, IL,  on September 23 to face Millikin University.  Webster opens play in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference as it hosts Principia College on September 26 at the Soccer Park.
