Gorloks Lose To #7 Ranked Bears, 3-1

Box Score The Webster University women's soccer team lost at #7 nationally ranked Washington University, 3-1, on September 30.  The Gorloks got down 2-0, cut the lead to 2-1, with 33 minutes left in the contest but couldn't add any more goals as they fell.

Six minutes into the contest, the Gorloks had a chance to draw first blood off a corner kick.  Sydney Tedesco (SO, Belleville, IL/Belleville East HS) took the kick and a header by Ashley Mess (SR, St. Louis, MO/Northwest HS) was blocked by a Bear defender.

Allison Ferguson (JR, Highland, IL/Highland HS) got off a shot for Webster just minutes later that was saved by the Wash U. goalkeeper.

Washington U. took a 1-0 lead at the 17:03 mark of the first, off a give and go, and a shot from inside the Webster box.  That would turn out to be the only goal of the half as the Bears took a 1-0 lead into the locker room.

The Bears took a 2-0 lead at the 54:46 mark in the second half on a shot off a rebound, but Webster had an answer just two minutes later.  Brianna Pagan (SO, St. Louis, MO/Washington HS) corralled a rebound of a Lauren Pratt (SR, St. Louis, MO/Incarnate Word Academy) shot, and fired it just under the cross bar to make it 2-1.  Pratt was credited with an assist on the goal.

It was Pagan's third goal of the season, making her second on the team to Chelsea Noser (FR, Collinsville, IL/Collinsville HS), who has four.

Washington U. was awarded a penalty kick at the 81:50 mark, converting the shot to make it a 3-1 final.

Robin Bolme (SO, Smyrna, TN/Blackman HS) got the start in goal for Webster and went the distance.  She made 10 saves in the game as the Bears got off 31 shots.

Washington U. was coming off a 3-1 win at #23 ranked Wheaton College (IL) and is now 8-1 on the year.

The Gorloks, who received votes in this week's NSCAA Central Region rankings, are 5-4 overall on the season.  Webster, 1-0 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, returns to play in the SLIAC on October 3 as it hosts Eureka College (IL) at the Soccer Park.
