Linthicum and Freyling Sweep Latest SLIAC Runner of the Week Honors

BELLEVILLE, Ill. – For the second time this season, Webster University swept this week's St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Cross Country Runners of the Week Awards on Monday afternoon as juniors Kalleigh Linthicum (Lake St. Louis, Mo./Timberland) and Nathan Freyling (Fenton, Mo./Fox) took home the Women's and Men's Runner of the Week honors respectively.
 
Linthicum earns her fourth SLIAC Women's Runner of the Week honor this season after running a personal best 6K time of 23:31.8 to place 72nd overall at the Kollege Town Sports XC Invitational on Saturday at Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne, Wis. Linthicum's time was the eighth fastest 6K time in school history and the fastest 6K time by a Gorlok women's runner this season.
 
Her performance helped the Gorloks to a 16th place finish out of 34 teams at the event hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. At the event, which featured seven nationally-ranked teams, the Gorloks scored 482 points as they were one point behind St. Benedict (481 points) and 44 points in front of Willamette (526 points). The Gorloks also had two other runners finish inside the Top 140 at the event as senior Meredith Sowers (Rolla, Mo./Rolla) was 131st with a time of 24:19.9 and freshman Kaitlin Higgins (Fenton, Mo./Rockwood Summit) was 136th with a time of 24:22.4.
 
Meanwhile, Freyling earns his first career SLIAC Men's Runner of the Week accolade after placing 123rd place overall at the Kollege Town Sports XC Invitational at the Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne, Wis. At the event, Freyling ran a personal best 8K time of 26:45.0 and the time was also a season best 8K time by a Gorlok runner.
 
Freyling's performance helped the Gorloks finish 21st overall out of 34 teams at the event that was hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. The Gorloks scored 648 points at the event that featured 10 nationally-ranked teams as they were 14 points in front of 22nd-place Wisconsin-Stevens Point (662 points) and 46 points behind 20th-place Aurora (602 points).
 
Linthicum, Freyling and the rest of the Gorloks women's and men's cross country teams will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 2 as they compete at the SLIAC Cross Country Championships hosted by Spalding University and held at the E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Ky.
