KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Webster University women's soccer heads into its home match-up on Wednesday with ninth-ranked Washington University in St. Louis ranked eighth in this week's latest installment of the United Soccer Coaches Division III Central Region poll that was released Monday afternoon by the organization.
The Gorloks, who have won two straight and five of its first seven matches overall this season, jumped up two spots from No. 10 last week to No. 8 this week thanks to earning back-to-back home shutout wins this past week against Illinois College (7-0) and Rose-Hulman (3-0).Â
Webster is one of five teams in this week's rankings that have won at least five matches this season and is one of five teams in the poll that have lost at least two matches.
WashU (7-1-1) jumps into the top spot in this week's latest Central Region poll thanks to its 2-1 double overtime last Wednesday at then No. 1 ranked Wheaton (7-1-0), who falls to No. 2 in this week's poll. WashU plays a 6 p.m. match on Wednesday at World Wide Technology Soccer Park in Fenton, Mo., against the Gorloks.Â
Following WashU and Wheaton in this week's poll is the University of Chicago (5-1-0) at No. 3, while Concordia-Wisconsin (4-0-0) remains at No. 4 this week and Adrian (Mich.) (3-2-2) jumps a spot to No. 5.Â
Dominican (Ill.) (5-1-0), who owns a 1-0 win this season over the Gorloks, jumps one spot to No. 6 this week and they are followed at No. 7 by Augustana (Ill.) (3-2-2), while Carroll (Wis.) (4-2-1) and Elmhurst (4-2-1), who the Gorloks defeated at home 6-3 on Sept. 7, are ranked ninth and 10th respectively this week.Â
Following Wednesday's home match with WashU, the Gorloks will travel to Anderson, Ind., for an 11 a.m. CDT match on Saturday, Sept. 28 against Anderson University. The Anderson match will complete the non-conference portion of Webster's schedule.
