WEBSTER GROVES – Without sports for the 2020 first semester, Webster University Athletics looks back at some events that took place during the week for This Week in Gorlok Athletics History - Oct. 5-11.
 
Oct. 5, 2013 –  Josh Papes and Jeff Wallner assisted on each other's goals and Patrick McCaffrey added a goal to pace the men's soccer team to a 3-0 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference win over then Greenville College on its home field at the St. Louis Soccer Park. Brian Woodward picked up the shutout win in goal as he made one save and helped lead the Gorloks to its fourth consecutive shutout. Box Score | Recap
 
Oct. 6, 2018 – Colton Vaughn was the men's cross country team's top finisher for the third straight meet as he placed 23rd overall at the Fast Cats Classic hosted by Kentucky Wesleyan College in Owensboro, Ky. At the meet, Vaughn ran the 8K course at Yellow Creek Park in a time of 28:26 to finish inside the Top 25 for the third consecutive meet. Vaughn's performance helped Webster finish the meet 11th out of 16 teams as they tallied 270 points. Results | Recap
 
Oct. 7, 2008 – The Gorlok volleyball team extended its SLIAC win streak to 11 consecutive matches as they posted a three-set sweep at Blackburn College (25-19, 25-12, 25-17). The win over the Beavers improved the Gorloks overall record to 15-3 and 11-0 in the league. In addition, the three-set sweep marked the 10th time on the year that Webster did not drop a single set. In the match, seven different Gorloks recorded at least three kills, including a team-high five kills by Caitlin Quinn. Along with Quinn, Sarah Bailey paced the Gorloks defense with 16 digs and Abby Williams had 16 assists and hit .667. Box Score | Recap
 
Oct. 8, 2008 – Webster women's basketball coach Jayme Callahan stepped down right before the beginning of practice for the 2008-09 season for an assistant coach position at Southeast Missouri State and with Callahan's departure, then Webster athletic director Tom Hart named assistant coach Jordan Olufson as the program's interim head coach. That first season, the Gorloks posted an 11-14 record under Olufson, who is entering his 13th season as the Gorloks head women's basketball coach in 2020-21. In his 13 years at Webster, Olufson is the program's all-time winningest coach with 187 wins and has compiled a 187-126 overall record and a 127-73 mark in SLIAC play and has led Webster to three SLIAC Tournament titles, three NCAA Tournament appearances (2011, 2018, 2020) and just the program's second-ever regular season SLIAC title in 2019-20 snd first since 2001-02. Oct. 9, 2019 – Melissa Kasper recorded her third career hat trick as the Gorloks women's soccer team posted a 13-0 over Iowa Wesleyan in its home SLIAC opener at World Wide Technology Soccer Park. The 13 goals marked the second consecutive match in which Webster had scored 13 goals and marked the first time in the program's 21-year history they had scored 13 goals in back-to-back matches. Against Iowa Wesleyan, Webster scored nine of their 13 goals in the opening half and Kasper, who scored the first goal of the match just 80 seconds into the contest, completed the hat trick just 62 seconds into the second half. The 13 goals and 13 assists helped Webster total 39 points in the match and the 39 points were tied for fourth most on the school's single match list. Box Score | Recap
 
Oct. 10, 2015 – Webster University volleyball coach Merry Graf collected her 300th career win at Webster as the Gorloks split SLIAC matches at home against Westminster (Mo.) College and Principia College. After suffering a four-set loss to Westminster, the Gorloks picked up a three-set sweep over Principia to give Graf her 300th as Webster's coach. Graf, who is in her 20th season as Webster's coach in 2020-21, is now 375-219 as Webster's coach and has compiled a 255-46 record in SLIAC matches. She is the school's all-time winningest women's volleyball coach and has led the Gorloks to eight SLIAC Tournament titles, eight NCAA Tournament appearances, four SLIAC Coach of the Year honors and seven regular season league titles, including three straight titles from 2007-09. Westminster Box Score | Principia Box Score | Recap
 
Oct. 11, 2013 – Freshman Katie O'Toole set a then school record with 50 digs to help the Gorloks to a five-set win (27-25, 21-25, 22-25, 25-12, 15-10) at home against Augustana (Ill.) College. In the win over the Augustana, O'Toole's 50 digs shattered the old school dig mark of 39 set by Susi Riegel in 2006 against Rhodes College. O'Toole's 50 digs helped the Gorloks finish with 97 digs for the match. In addition to the 97 digs, Webster's defense also recorded 28 block assists in the victory, which was one shy of the school record of 29 block assists against Principia in Oct. 1, 1992. Sam Kersting and Emily Ratkewicz each had seven block assists in the match. Kersting paced Webster's offense with 17 kills, while Andrea Dwiggins added 11 kills and Jordan Vehlewald had 10 kills in the win. Box Score | Recap
