Tuesday Top 5: Women's Tennis Career Singles Wins

WEBSTER GROVES – In today's sixth Tuesday Top 5, which delves into some of the top five statistical lists in the history of Webster University Athletics, we look at the Top 5 totals for career singles wins in the history of the women's tennis program. These statistical lists are based on actual rankings by the statistic or category listed with information on each of those student-athletes in the Top 5 rankings. 

Today's Tuesday Top 5 looks at the Top 5 totals for career singles wins in women's tennis. This group of five Gorlok women's tennis players accounted for 277 wins during their playing careers in tennis and five all players combined to post an all-time record of 277-76, which is good for a .785 all-time winning percentage.

Listed below are the Top 5 all-time leaders in singles wins in the history of Webster University women's tennis. 
 
Monica Behrle (2015-18) – 69 wins … In her four years as a Gorlok, Behrle rewrote the school's women's tennis record book as along with winning a school record 69 singles matches, she also won a school record 58 doubles matches. In her career, Behrle, who was the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Women's Tennis Player of the Year in 2018 and the SLIAC Newcomer of the Year in 2015, posted a 69-22 record in singles and tallied a .758 career winning percentage in singles. Behrle, who an eight-time All-SLIAC selection in tennis, including earning first team honors in both singles and doubles in 2015 and 2018, won at least 14 singles matches every season of her Webster career, including tallying a single season school record of 21 singles wins in 2015 as she posted a 21-1 record. She also won 18 singles matches (18-5 record) as a senior in 2018, 16 singles wins (16-9 record) as a sophomore in 2016 and 14 singles wins (14-7 record) during her junior year in 2017. She played 63 of her 91 singles matches at the No. 1 spot in the line-up and posted a record of 46-17 at that spot and was 18-2 in career singles matches in SLIAC play. The 46 wins at No. 1 singles are the most in the program's history.
 
Allison Tungate (2009-12) – 58 wins … Prior to the arrival of Behrle at Webster, Tungate was the school's all-time winningest women's tennis player in singles as she won 58 matches in her four year career and posted a 58-10 all-time record. Her 58 singles wins are now second on the school's career charts, while her .853 career singles winning percentage is tops on the school's all-time chart. In her time as a Gorlok, Tungate won at least 12 singles matches each season, including winning 18 singles matches as a senior in 2012. Those 18 singles wins in 2012 are tied for second most in a season in the program's history. During her senior campaign, she went 18-4 in singles and compiled an .818 winning percentage and was 17-3 in doubles. Along with the 18 singles wins in 2012, she won 14 matches in singles in both 2010 and 2009 as she was 14-1 both of those years and won 12 singles matches (12-4 record) as a junior in 2011. She was a seven-time All-SLIAC selections, including earning four honors in singles and three honors in doubles. She played 35 of her 68 singles matches at the No. 2 spot in the line-up and won 32 of those matches. Those 32 wins at No. 2 singles are the most in the program's history. Tungate tallied a 24-1 record in SLIAC singles action.
 
Lindsey Hays (2010-13) – 55 wins … During her four years as a Gorlok from 2010-13, Hays won 55 matches in singles and tallied a 55-12 career record. The 55 wins are third most in the program's history, while her .821 career singles winning percentage is second on the school's all-time chart. In her time at Webster, Hays, who was a seven-time All-SLIAC selection, including a three-time First-Team All-SLIAC performer in singles, won at least 12 singles matches each season, including 16 singles wins (16-2 record) as a junior in 2012. The 16 singles wins are tied for fifth on the school's single season chart. She won 12 or more matches at three different spots in the singles line-up as she posted a 15-5 record at No. 1 singles, a 12-3 mark at No. 3 singles and a 20-1 record at No. 4 singles. Along with winning 16 singles matches in 2012, she won 15 singles matches in 2010 (15-4 record) and posted 12 singles wins in both 2011 and 2013 as she posted 12-3 record in both of those seasons. In SLIAC play, she went 18-3 in singles and is one of five players in school history to win at least 18 singles matches in league play.
 
Kaylen Kress (2013-16) – 49 wins … Kress completed her four year Webster career in 2016 with 49 career singles wins and those 49 singles wins are fourth on the school's all-time chart. In her career, she posted a 49-21 record and compiled a .700 singles winning percentage, which is eighth on the school's all-time chart. During her time as a Gorlok, she won at least 12 singles matches three times, including winning 15 during her senior year in 2016. In 2016, she went 15-10 in singles. Along with the 15 singles wins in 2016, she also won 13 singles matches (13-5 record) in 2015 and 12 singles matches (12-2 record) in 2013. As a Gorlok, she was a six-time All-SLIAC selection as she won three honors each in singles and doubles. She primarily played No. 2 and No. 3 singles as a Gorlok and compiled a 23-14 at the No. 2 spot and won school record 20 matches at No. 3 singles as she was 20-5 at that spot. Additionally, she went 18-2 in SLIAC singles action.
 
Marissa Lewis (2012, 2014-15) – 46 wins … Lewis lettered at Webster for three years and in those three years, she won 46 singles matches and those 46 singles win are fifth on the school's all-time chart. In her career, she posted a 46-11 record in singles and her .807 career singles winning percentage is third on the school's all-time charts. During her career, she won at least 12 singles all three years, including 18 singles wins in 2012 as she posted an 18-3 record. Those 18 singles wins are tied for second on the school's single season charts. Lewis was named the SLIAC Player of the Year in 2014 as she went 12-4 in singles and she was also a six-time All-SLIAC selection as she earned three honors each in singles and doubles. Additionally, she took home First-Team All-SLIAC honors in singles in 2012 and 2014. In addition to her 18 singles wins in 2012 and 12 in 2014, she also won 16 in 2015 (16-4). She played primarily at No. 1 singles as she compiled a 24-9 record at No. 1 singles and also went 5-0 at No. 2 singles, 12-1 at No. 3 singles and 2-0 at No. 4 singles. Lewis also posted a 16-1 record in singles during SLIAC play.
