Senior Spotlight | Riley Muren and Abby Burroughs

WEBSTER GROVES – With the cancellation of the spring sports season, Webster Athletics will be recognizing their spring senior student-athletes twice a week on www.websterathletics.com for the remainder of the 2020 spring semester. The fourth edition of the Webster Senior Spotlight recognizes Riley Muren (men's tennis) and Abby Burroughs (softball).

Muren has been a three-year member of the Webster men's tennis team after transferring from the University of Illinois-Springfield… in his time at Webster, he has posted a 29-14 career record in singles with all those matches being played at the No. 1 spot in the line-up… his 29 career wins are tied for sixth on the school's all-time wins chart… this season, he was 10-2 in singles, including posting a 9-0 record in dual singles matches… his .833 win percentage in singles this season is tied for sixth best on the school's single season chart… ended the 2020 season winning nine consecutive singles matches… went 6-3 in doubles this season and posted an 18-22 record in doubles at Webster, all of those came at the No. 1 doubles spot… the 18 career doubles wins are tied for fifth on the school's all-time chart… was a three-time St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week this season and earned the honor five times in his Gorlok career… earned Second-Team All-SLIAC honors as a junior at No. 1 singles as he posted a 12-6 record in singles, including a 3-1 mark in SLIAC action… went 9-9 in doubles as a junior and 3-10 in doubles as a sophomore… posted a winning record all three years in singles… a native of O'Fallon, Ill., Muren graduated from O'Fallon Community High School and is majoring in Business Administration at Webster.

Abby Burroughs • Sr. / OF / Edwardsville, Ill. (Triad HS) / Softball

Burroughs is the only four year member of the Gorlok softball team this year… since joining Webster, Burroughs has become one of the top softball players in the program's history as she has played 126 games and made 125 starts and is a career .332 hitter… this season, she played in and started all 14 games, mostly in center field, but also started at both catcher and left field… in her time at Webster, she has recorded 125 hits, scored 97 runs, hit 26 doubles, three triples, 17 home runs and 89 RBI… her 17 career home runs are sixth on the school's all-time list, while her 26 doubles are eighth all-time and the 97 runs scored are ninth all-time in the program's history… her 125 hits are 15th on the school's all-time chart… this season, hit .308 with 12 hits, nine runs scored, two doubles, one triple, one home run and 7 RBI… recorded 57 hits in her first season as a Gorlok in 2017 and those 57 hits are tied for second on the school's single season chart… has walked 53 times in her career, which is tied for third on the school's all-time list… struck out just 46 times in 377 career at-bats… had four strikeouts in 39 at-bats this season… recorded 33 career multi-hit games and 23 career multiple RBI games… as a junior in 2019, hit .259 with 22 hits, 24 runs scored, six doubles, six home runs and 23 RBI… hit .309 with 34 hits, 23 runs scored, six doubles, one triple, three home runs, 22 RBI as a sophomore in 2018… was a three-time Second-Team All-St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference selection and a three-time Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete… was selected to the SLIAC All-Tournament Team in 2017… a native of Edwardsville, Ill., and a graduate of Triad High School, Burroughs is majoring in Biological Sciences with a minor in Chemistry at Webster… served as a student worker assisting with the in-game statistics crew for Webster's home men's and women's basketball games the past four years.
