2010s All-Decade Teams: Men's Golf

Over the next several weeks, Webster University Athletics Department will be releasing its All-Decade Teams of the 2010s. For a full schedule of the teams set to be released, click here.
 
WEBSTER GROVES – Webster University Athletics continues to unveil its All-Decade Teams from the 2010s as it compiles the best student-athletes across the past 10 seasons (2010-19) in each of Webster's intercollegiate athletic teams. Today, we unveil the 2010-19 All-Decade Men's Golf Team.
 
During the past decade, the Gorloks cemented its place as the top men's golf program in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference as Webster captured six SLIAC titles, including winning three consecutive league titles from 2017-19. Along with winning six title in 10 years, the Gorloks also advanced to the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships in all six of those conference championship seasons and also making the cut and finishing 17th overall at the 2017 Championships, which is the best finish for the program in school history.
 
The 10 members of the Men's Golf All-Decade Team earned a combined 25 All-SLIAC honors, including 17 first team honorees. In addition, four of the All-Decade Team members took home SLIAC Player of the Year honors and were also the individual medalists at the championship event and three earned SLIAC Newcomer of the Year honors.
 
Listed below are is the 10 member Webster Athletics Men's Golf Team of the Decade for the 2010s (listed in order as selected by head coach Andrew Belsky).
 
Will Hocker (Grapevine, Texas - 2018-present)
In his three years with the Gorloks, Hocker has become one of the top golfers in school history as he is a two-time First-Team All-SLIAC honoree, a three-time PING All-Region selection and became the school's first-ever Division III All-American in men's golf in school history as he earned All-American status during the shortened 2019-20 season. As a freshman in 2018, Hocker was the individual medalist at the SLIAC Championships and earned both SLIAC Player and Newcomer of the Year accolades and was also a repeat First-Team All-SLIAC selection in 2019 as he was the runner-up at the SLIAC Championships.
 
Hocker, who was a nine-time SLIAC Player of the Week during the decade, holds the school record for career scoring average at 73.61 and his 72.0 scoring average during the abbreviated 2019-20 season is also a single season school record. In fact, Hocker holds three of the school's Top 5 single season scoring marks. During the 2019-20 season, Hocker shot a school record round of 63 (8-under par) in the final round of the Tim Kopka Memorial Tournament in September and that round of 63 was the lowest round this season among all Division III golfers in 2019-20, while his 8-under par was tied for the lowest round relative to par in Division III on the season. Hocker has won four tournaments in his career with the Gorloks and has had 17 Top 10 finishes.
 
Zac Ciesla (Lake Charles, La. - 2017-present)
During the decade, Ciesla was a two-time First-Team All-SLIAC selection in 2017 and 2019 and was also the individual medalist at the SLIAC Championships and the SLIAC Player of the Year as a junior in 2019 and in 2017, was the SLIAC Newcomer of the Year. In the school record books, Ciesla is second on the school's career scoring average chart as he has a 75.61 scoring average and has two of the school's Top 6 single season scoring marks, including his 74.5 average in 2019, which is third on the school's single season chart. Ciesla was a four-time SLIAC Player of the Week during the decade and has had 11 career Top 10 finishes, including earning medalist honors four times.
 
Tyler Thorman (Macomb, Ill. - 2013-16)
Prior to the arrival of Hocker at Webster, Thorman was perhaps the top gofler in school history as during his time with the Gorloks, he was a three-time First-Team All-SLIAC performer, including sharing SLIAC Player of the Year honors as a senior in 2016 after he took home co-medalist honors at the 2016 SLIAC Championships. In his career, Thorman finished with a 76.21 career scoring average which is currently third on the school's all-time chart, but was first when he graduated in 2016. His 74.7 scoring average in 2015-16 is fourth on the school's single season chart. Thorman, who qualified as an individual to the 2013 NCAA Division III National Championships and finished 45th overall, had eight Top 10 career finishes and one event win, which was the 2016 SLIAC Championships.
 
Kyler Scott (Culver, Ind. - 2009-13)
Scott played all four years in the decade and closed his Webster career as a four-time All-SLIAC honoree, including being a three-time First-Team All-SLIAC selection. He is one of three Gorloks in school history to earn All-SLIAC honors four times. In addition to being a four-time All-SLIAC selection, Scott was also the individual medalist at the 2012 SLIAC Championships and that first place finish earned SLIAC Player of the Year honors. He finished his career with a 76.75 scoring average, which is fifth on the school's career charts and recorded six rounds of par or better and recorded school record 24 Top 10 finishes and won four tournaments. He played in 84.5 career rounds and that is second most in school history.
 
Jon Hughes (Gardner, Kan. - 2013-16)
Hughes, who currently serves as an assistant coach for the Gorloks, played four years in this decade and was a three-time All-SLIAC selection, including earning First-Team All-SLIAC honors in 2016 and SLIAC Newcomer of the Year accolades in 2014. He concluded his Webster career with a school record 93 rounds of golf played and recorded a career scoring average of 77.1, which is sixth on the school's all-time chart. Recorded 11 Top 10 finishes, including seven Top 5 placements and had eight rounds of par or better in his career. He recorded two of the Top 10 single season scoring averages in school history as his 75.1 average in 2015-16 is seventh on the single season chart and his 75.6 season average in 2016-17 is tied for ninth on the single season chart. 
 
Mitchell Vetter (Colleyville, Texas - 2017-present)
Vetter is the third current Gorlok golfer to earn a spot on the 2010s All-Decade Team as he earned First-Team All-SLIAC honors in 2019 after finishing third at the 2019 SLIAC Championships. His career scoring average of 76.84 is currently fifth on the school's all-time list with one more season of action left. In his time as a Gorlok, Vetter has played 56 rounds and has had six rounds of par or better golf. He has recorded five Top 10 finishes, including three Top 5 placements with that third place finish at the 2019 SLIAC Championships being his best finish. His 75.6 scoring average in 2018-19 is tied for ninth on the school's single season chart.
 
Cole Pickett (Greenville, Ill. – 2017-present)
Pickett is the fourth and final current Gorlok golfer to earn a spot on the 2010s All-Decade Team. He has been a two-time All-SLIAC selection, including earning First-Team honors in 2019. His career scoring average of 77.56 is seventh on the school's all-time chart with one more year of competition left. Along with a career scoring average of 77.56, Pickett has played in 59 rounds and has had five Top 10 finishes, including earning medalist honors at this past fall's Country Club Classic where he shot back-to-back rounds of 70 to finish with a 2-under par 140 for 36 holes to earn his first career tournament title.
 
Brian Morris (Shorewood, Wis. – 2017-19)
Morris played just two seasons with the Gorloks after transferring from Carthage College. In his two seasons, Morris was named a First-Team All-SLIAC selection in 2018 after placing fourth at the 2018 SLIAC Championships. In his time with the Gorloks, Morris played 29 rounds of golf and 14 tournaments. Finished his career at Webster with a 75.90 career scoring average, including a 75.5 average during the 2017-218 season, which is eighth on the school's single season chart. Recorded five Top 10 finishes, including four Top 5 placements and took home medalist honors after the 2018-19 season opening event at Edgewood College as he shot a 1-under par 70 in the rain-shortened event.
 
Will Murphy (Staunton, Ill. – 2015-19)
Murphy played four years in the decade from 2015-19 and in his time with the Gorloks, he was a four-time All-SLIAC honoree, including earning first team honors in 2017. One of three men's golfers in school history to earn All-SLIAC honors four times and one of two on the 2010s All-Decade Team as Kyler Scott was also a four-time All-SLIAC selection. In his career, Murphy recorded a career scoring average of 77.9 and that is eighth on the school's all-time chart. The 82.5 rounds of golf played is third most in school history, while his 25.5 rounds of golf in 2016-17 are tied for second on the school's single season chart. Recorded seven Top 10 finishes, including a career best fifth place finish at the 2017 SLIAC Championships and had four rounds of par or better golf.
 
Brodie Dakin (Macomb, Ill. – 2012-15)
Dakin is the final member of the 2010s All-Decade Men's Golf Team as he played three years for the Gorloks and in those three years, he earned All-SLIAC honors all three years, including earning First-Team honors in both 2014 and 2015. In his time as a Gorlok, Dakin, who is currently serving as a graduate assistant golf coach at Western Illinois University, recorded a 79.08 scoring average, which is 13th on the school's career chart. Recorded five Top 10 finishes, including three Top 5 placements and his best finish was a tied for third at the Wisconsin Lutheran Fall Invitational in 2014. Dakin played in 66.5 rounds and shot three rounds of par or better golf in his time at Webster.
