KANSAS CITY, Mo. – For the ninth consecutive season, Webster University's women's soccer team was once again recognized for its clean play throughout the 2020-21 spring season on Monday afternoon as the Gorloks earned a Team Ethics & Sportsmanship Award from the United Soccer Coaches.
Webster was one of 10 soccer teams to earn a Silver medal level of the honor. The silver level is designated for teams whose accumulation of yellow and red cards range from 11-30 percent of its games played. During the 2020-21 spring season, Webster had two yellow cards and zero red cards in matches played (18.2 percent).
It is the 13th time in the program's 22-year history that the Gorloks have earned this award from the United Soccer Coaches. The USC awards platinum, gold, silver, and bronze levels and in 2020-21 only 34 college men's and women's teams nationally in all divisions (NCAA I, II, III, NAIA and NCCAA) were recognized by the United Soccer Coaches.
Webster was the only men's or women's soccer program from the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletics Conference to be recognized with the award from the USC. Five intercollegiate teams received platinum status, which is that they went an entire season without a player or a coach receiving a yellow or a red card during the 2020-21 season.
Teams honored at the gold (1-10%), silver (11-30%) and bronze (31-50%) levels are based on a percentage calculated by the total number of cards received by players and coaches divided by the team's total number of games played.
In 2020-21, the Gorloks finished with a 7-4 overall record and went 6-3 in the SLIAC. The Gorloks advanced to the semifinals of the SLIAC Tournament where they fell 2-1 to Westminster (Mo.) College at World Wide Technology Soccer Park.
