Women’s Soccer Tabbed Second In 2025 SLIAC Preseason Poll

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) has released their 2025 preseason poll for the sport of women's soccer. The 16x SLIAC Champion Webster University Gorloks were picked to finish second in the 2025 SLIAC Women's Soccer preseason poll with 59 points and three first-place votes

The Gorloks enter the 2025 season coming off a 12-2-4 overall record that includes an 6-0-2 conference record. This season, the team returns 14 student-athletes from last year's squad that includes seven starters, three all-conference selections, and the reigning Newcomer of the Year honoree. This year, the Gorloks return 2024 First Team All-Conference defender Jasmine Hubbard for her junior season as she started all 18 games and scored three goals last year. In addition, another all-conference returner is the reigning 2024 Newcomer of the Year and First Team All-Conference selection Mia Smith as she recorded six goals, four assists, and 16 total points a season ago. The final all-conference returner is Third Team All-Conference selection in Riley Cappozzo as she started in 17 games and recorded one goal (game-winning), four assists, and six total points.

Other key returning student-athletes include forwards Payton Montana and Malaya Blakely as the duo look to pair up at the top of the attack this season. Montana, the leading returning goal scorer from last year, scored seven goals (one game-winner) while adding three assists for 17 total points in 16 games. Blakely, who started in 11 games recorded four goals (one game-winner), two assists, and 10 total points last season. 

In addition, the Gorloks return starting defender Sienna Inouye for his senior campaign. Last year, Inouye started all 18 games and recorded four goals (one game-winner), one assist, and nine total points. Staying on the defensive side, another key returner for the Gorloks is goalkeeper Courtney Haneline as she enters her junior year. Last season, Haneline started all 18 games in net that included 12 wins, 53 saves, and led the league in with 10 shutout victories and a goals against average of .783. 

Head Coach Luigi Scire and his staff are excited to welcome nine new additions to the 2025 roster which includes three transfers and six from high school ranks. The three transfers include Leia Adkins (Goalkeeper / Pittsburgh State University), Sofia Bosnos (Forward / Dominican University), and Elin Nilsson (Forward / Governors State University). The six incoming freshman class features goalkeeper Kayla Jentzen (Kennesaw, Georgia), midfielder Gemma Bowers (Fort Collins, Colorado), and four defenders Maggie Brown (Yantis, Texas), Carmen Williams (Avada, Colorado), Taylor Davis (St. Louis, Missouri), and Sabrina Stransky (Warrenville, Illinois)

The Gorloks will open the 2025 season with nine non-conference games that includes the first four games at home starting against Lake Forest College on August 30th at World Wide Technology Soccer Park in Fenton, Missouri. Following the four-game homestand, the team will travel to the states of Illinois, Indiana, and Arkansas for three non-conference games against Aurora University, Rose-Hulman, and Hendrix College. The Gorloks will close out non-conference play with two home games against Illinois College and Cornell College. 

For the entire month of October, the team will close out the regular season with eight straight conference games starting at Eureka College on October 1 in Eureka, Illinois. Following a road game at Greenville University on October 4, the Gorloks will return to WWT Soccer Park for a three-game homestand with games against Westminster College, Principia College (Senior Day), and MUW. The final home game of the season is scheduled for October 21 against Blackburn College. The Gorloks will close out the regular season on October 29 with a trip to Spalding University in Louisville, Kentucky.
