WEBSTER GROVES – In today's seventh Tuesday Top 5, which delves into some of the top five statistical lists in the history of Webster University Athletics, we look at the Top 5 totals for career scoring averages in the history of the men's golf program. These statistical lists are based on actual rankings by the statistic or category listed with information on each of those student-athletes in the Top 5 rankings.
Today's Tuesday Top 5 looks at the Top 5 career scoring averages in men's golf. This group of five Gorlok golfers have all achieved a career scoring average of under 77 and three of those five career scoring averages of under 77 have occurred within the last four seasons.
Listed below are the Top 5 all-time leaders in singles wins in the history of Webster University women's tennis.
Will Hocker (2017-present) – 73.61 … Hocker enters the 2021 spring season as the school's all-time leader in career scoring average as he has recorded a 73.61 in 4,564 strokes and 62 rounds. The 73.61 career scoring average is two strokes better than the next best average in the program's history and he is only golfer in school record to have a career average under 74. The 2019-20 GCAA Division III All-American, Hocker has recorded the two lowest single season scoring averages in the program's history as he tallied a single season school average of 72.0 in 2019-20 and recorded a 73.8 average during the 2017-18 season. In addition to those Top 2 single season scoring averages, he also posted a 74.7 scoring average in 2018-19. In his career, Hocker, who has been a two-time All-St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference performer and was the SLIAC Player and Newcomer of the Year as a freshman in 2017-18, has won four tournaments, including being the medalist at the 2018 SLIAC Championships and has had a total of 11 Top 10 finishes and 20 rounds of par or better golf, including tying a single season school mark of seven rounds of par or better in both 2017-18 and 2019-20. With at least one more season and probably two left thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, Hocker's career scoring average could even go lower than it is now.
Zac Ciesla (2016-present) – 75.61 … Another current Gorlok sit second on the school's career scoring average chart as Ciesla has recorded an average of 75.61 in 6,162 strokes and 81.5 rounds. The 75.61 nearly a stroke better than third place and two strokes behind the school's all-time career leader. Ciesla, who was the SLIAC Player of the Year in 2019 after earning medalist honors at the 2019 SLIAC Championships, has posted two of the Top 10 lowest single season scoring averages in the program's history as his average of 74.5 in 2018-19 is third and his average of 75.1 in 2019-20 is sixth best all-time. Along with his two Top 10 single season scoring averages, he also has recorded season averages of 76.12 in 2016-17 and 76.76 in 2017-18. Ciesla has won four tournaments in his career, including winning medalist honors at the 2019 SLIAC Championships and has posted a total of 11 career Top 10 finishes. He has also had 15 career rounds of par or better golf, including five each in both 2016-17 and 2018-19.
Tyler Thorman (2013-16) – 76.21 … During his three years as a Gorlok, Thorman recorded a career scoring average of 76.21, which is third on the school's all-time list. In his career, he played in 67.5 rounds and recorded 5,144 strokes. His 74.7 scoring average in 2015-16 is fourth on the school's single season chart, while he also tallied single season scoring averages of 76.6 in 2014-15 and 77.0 in 2013-14. Thorman, who was the SLIAC Player of the Year and the co-medalist at the 2016 SLIAC Championships, tallied eight career Top 10 finishes, including earning co-medalist honors at the 2016 SLIAC Championships and had seven career rounds of par or better. In 2013, Thorman qualified as an individual to the NCAA Division III National Championships and placed 45th overall.
Kyler Scott (2009-13) – 76.75 … In his four year career as a Gorlok, Scott recorded a career scoring average of 76.75 in 6,485 strokes and a school record 84.5 rounds of golf. His career scoring average of 76.75 is fourth on the all-time charts and was a school record until Thorman came along with his 76.21 from 2013-16. Scott, who was a four-time All-SLIAC selection and the SLIAC Player of the Year in 2012 after being the individual medalist at the 2012 SLIAC Championships, tallied his career season best scoring average of 76.4 in 2012-13 and recorded an average of 76.4 in 2010-11. He also posted single season scoring averages of 76.6 in 2011-12 and 77.0 in 2013-14. Scott posted a school record 24 career Top 10 finishes, including four first place showings and had six career rounds of par or better.
Mitchell Vetter (2017-present) – 76.84 … The third and three current Gorloks on the school's career scoring chart is Vetter as he has recorded a scoring average of 76.84 in 4,303 strokes and 56 rounds. Along with being fifth on the school's career scoring average chart, Vetter, who was a First-Team All-SLIAC selection in 2019, has had two season averages of under 77 as he averaged 75.6 in 2018-19 and that 75.6 average is tied for 10th on the single season chart, while he averaged 76.3 in 2019-20. He has played in 24 career events and has had five career Top 10 finishes, including three Top 5 placements and has carded six rounds of par or better.
